Our Reception Team are also trained in Care Navigation and you will notice that we ask a series of questions when booking in for an appointment. You do not always need to be assessed by the GP. Here at the practice we have a number of medical students also so at times we will waver our navigation to ensure that the students get to see a range of conditions. The majority of the time we will be strict with our navigation of your care and refusals to access a service will result in no appointment been made.
We have a number of clinicians attached to the surgery.
🔴 Pharmacy First - the majority of local pharmacies now treat the 7 common conditions, our staff will refer you and then you can either present at the pharmacy or ring for an appointment, we are asking people to choose the appointment route to try and support our pharmacy teams with demand.
🟠 Pharmacy Minor Aliments - similar to above however there are a wider range of conditions that the pharmacy team can advise and prescribe for you without the need for seeing a GP
🟡 FCP - First Contact Practitioner - for any joint/muscle pain, back, neck, shoulder, knee problems - both staff can refer on for scans etc if needed
🟢 FCD - First Contact Dietitian - can help with weight loss, weight gain, IBS, Diabetes Management, Coeliac disease and other conditions (reception have the full criteria)
🔵 Children/Young Person Mental Health Team - for support with behavioural, sleeping, bed wetting, social interactions, anxiety etc 5-17 years
🟣 Mental Health Nurses - these new additions to the surgery allow us to navigate patients direct to support rather than going through the GP. Liz and Jess work between Kings Medical and Acklam Medical Centres on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
⚫️ Extended GP Access clinics include GP, ANP, Nurse and HCA appointments from 6-9pm for patients who may need appointments out of office hours.
⚪️ Eye casualty - for any traumas to the eyes please refer to James Cook University Hospital
We will share information on each of the above services over the coming days.
Thank you for always supporting our staff. I would like to reiterate that our reception team work from the guidance of both our GP partners and do not make medical decisions, we take information and triage to the correct place for the problem. If in doubt they ALWAYS consult one of the senior teams. The triage information we have is very strict and they do not work outside of this.
