"The Princess of Wales visited the RHS Wellbeing Garden at Colchester Hospital. The centre provides therapy, community groups and holistic treatments including reflexology.
The Princess, speaking to therapist Amanda Green, disclosed that she had not yet tried reflexology but had undergone acupuncture as part of her own health journey.
Acupuncture can help with the side effects of cancer and its treatment, according to the charity Cancer Research.
The 2,000-year-old traditional Chinese medicine, which involves putting fine needles into the body at particular points by a trained practitioner, is traditionally believed to to help energy - known as Qi - flow through the body.
Modern practitioners believe it works by stimulating nerves and releasing natural morphine-like substances, as well as serotonin.
Acupuncture, which is nowadays available in most hospitals, hospices and clinics, is believed to help with symptoms including fatigue, dry mouth, breathless and hot flushes due to anti-cancer treatments."

Kate, 43, looked stunning in smart attire as she visited the RHS's Wellbeing Garden at Colchester Hospital today.

A response to the articles about IVF add-ons.

According to an article published in the Guardian, Independent, BBC Radio 4 and BBC News today.
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has issued a warning to those undergoing IVF about “unproven extras” to increase their chances of having a baby. Acupuncture is highlighted as one of these “unproven extras”. However, recent systematic reviews indicate that acupuncture may increase the likelihood of having a baby.
It is very important that people are given the information they need to help them make an informed decision. There are a number of issues that the articles do not fully explore.
Ian Appleyard Research and Policy Manager has detailed these in his response.

Alex Jacobs CEO has released the following statement to the media outlets, we hope they choose to publish our statement to make their articles a more holistic view of the evidence.

Recent systematic reviews indicate that acupuncture may well be beneficial for those undergoing IVF. For example, Smith et al. (2019) suggests that 'acupuncture may be effective when compared with no adjunctive treatment.' In addition, there are significant methodological factors which may lead the research to underestimate the true effect of acupuncture. Clinical trials often only use a fixed protocol of acupuncture points, one or two treatments and do not factor in that placebo acupuncture is still an active treatment. BAcC members have a minimum 3 year degree-level training and can tailor the treatment according to the specific needs of the individual patient.

"We welcome the publication of the review by Cashin et al (2025). The analysis shows that acupuncture is among the best-performing therapies available for back pain. The study also looked at heat and cupping, and indicated that these therapies lead to moderate and small reductions in pain, respectively. However, both cupping and heat, in the form of moxibustion, are part of the traditional practice of acupuncture. A traditional acupuncturist will commonly combine these techniques to enhance the therapeutic effect."
The BAcC represents practitioners who have undertaken degree-level training in acupuncture and is an Accredited Register of the PSA. For more information and a video presentation from Ian Appleyard go to: https://acupuncture.org.uk/news/bacc-response-to-cashin-et-al-systematic-review-on-back-pain/
