Tiger Ward summer celebration🌞

Patients and families from our children’s cancer unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital enjoyed a fun-filled day with sunshine, bouncy castles, face painting, tattoos and ice creams.

A very special highlight was 11-year-old Marcel ringing the End of Treatment Bells after three years of treatment for Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia , a moment of joy and hope for all.

Patient Alex had a brilliant time too. His mum Anna said: “Events like this bring a sense of normality, letting children forget their worries and simply enjoy being kids.”

Sam MacDonald, Interim Deputy Paediatric Oncology Clinical Nurse Specialist, added: “Our Tiger Ward patients miss out on many parties due to treatment, so being able to hold the Tiger Summer Party for our families is a great privilege. Seeing the children playing and enjoying themselves makes it all worthwhile.

“Watching Marcel ring the End of Treatment Bell was truly inspiring for families who are just beginning their journey.”

Thanks to the The Chartwell Cancer Trust and Meridian Sports Club for making this special day possible. 💙

Our community services, mostly covering Lewisham borough, are a vital support for patients from Deptford to Beckenham and beyond. We'll have all our fingers and toes crossed for the award announcements on 20 Nov, but for now all there is to say is a huge congratulations to our colleagues working out in the community – you inspire us all.

The Safari Children’s Ward at Queen Elizabeth Hospital celebrated summer with a magical Butterfly Party full of creativity, music, and transformation.

Our young patients nurtured caterpillars, enjoyed crafts with the Old Royal Naval College Education team, and had live performances from Music in Hospitals and Spread a Smile. Thanks to Hero Self, they also took part in confidence-building activities, reminding us all that transformation isn’t just for butterflies.

Huge thanks to the QEH Newhaven Hospital School Team for organising this wonderful event, and to our amazing community partners for making the day possible. 💙 🦋

Congratulations to Shuvai Gumbo, Junior Sister on Ward 19 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), our LGT Star of the Month for June.🌟

Shuvai was recognised for her outstanding compassion, teamwork, and dedication on the Elderly Care Ward. Always ready to support patients and colleagues, she goes above and beyond to make a difference every day.

Whether comforting families during tough times or lifting team spirits with her calm and caring approach, Shuvai embodies what great care looks like.

And a special thank you to our lovely fruit stall outside QEH, who kindly donate a free fruit basket each month to our winners. We’re so lucky to have you serving the most delicious fruit right outside our hospital.
