What does a Shiatsu Session involve? Here's a rundown of your first session -
At the beginning of the session, the practitioner will discuss the client’s expectations and needs; what they hope to gain from Shiatsu treatment. This will normally be explored by ‘taking a case history’ in which the practitioner will ask questions about current and past health, and any concerns or restrictions to treatment. Since Shiatsu is a holistic therapy, the practitioner will take emotional and psychological factors into account, as well as the physical condition.
Many forms of Shiatsu, though not all, use East Asian medical theory to describe what is happening to the client in terms of “Ki” or energy. Others base their therapy focus on western medical knowledge. The practitioner then designs a plan that will give the client the most therapeutic benefit according to their individual needs and will ask the client to sign a form consenting to treatment. Clients are encouraged to discuss and participate in the therapeutic process; practitioners will give aftercare advice and often supportive practices for clients to use between sessions.
Shiatsu uses a variety of manual techniques, including static pressure with palms and thumbs, kneading, soothing, tapping, and stretching. These enhance the body’s physical systems (circulatory, lymphatic etc.) and can access its deeper energy reserves. In the case where the client's energy is low or deficient, the practitioner uses specific techniques to enhance and vitalise it. When the client is over-stressed, wound-up, or anxious, the practitioner employs techniques to calm and release tension. In this way, Shiatsu works to alleviate conditions, restore balance, and promote health.
A regular maintenance program of Shiatsu is an excellent way to maintain wellness and improve vitality. This schedule will vary for each person.

Seasonal Self-care – Tips for Winter
1. Make sure your stay warm, keep your kidneys warm, wear slippers (the first Kidney meridian point is on the base of your foot!)
2. Focus on foods that share the qualities of the Water element: colours are dark, taste is naturally salty (no added salt !), content is hydrating and nourishing.

3. Drink warm water, such as herbal teas.

4. Find stillness in your day. Schedule more time to discover yourself through reflection. Meditation, yoga, journaling, Qi Gong, and breathwork are great winter activities.

5. Stay socially connected. Avoid becoming too isolated. Socialising is good for your physical wellbeing and your mental health, and helps keep you feeling energised and vital, especially as you get older

6. Take time to rest and restore your energy as this will support your Ki and overall immune system. Try to go to bed a bit earlier if needed and slow down when you can. Balance satisfying activity and challenge with rest and quietness.

7. Come and have a Shiatsu ! This will support your Kidney energy which in turn can strengthen your will, willpower, ambition, drive and motivation. Shiatsu is a dynamic from of bodywork which harmonizes and supports your overall energy base as well as addressing particular element imbalances within your body which could be manifesting on a physical and/or emotional level.

Covid 19 Response

Well both acupuncture and shiatsu are now available and appointments being made.

There are a few changes to my normal ways of working including cleaning of hands on entry along with a temperature check. Weather permitting the windows and doors will be kept open, so make sure you wear sufficient (freshly clean) clothes, long sleeve tops are essential. Also I will be limiting the number of appointments per day to just 3.

.....otherwise its back to giving you lovely lot the pampering you require.

If you are not ready to come in person, the following options are still available:
