Neem comes from India and is a tree. In Ayurveda, different parts of this tree (the leaves, flowers, seeds, fruit, roots, and bark) are used as a medicinal plant, and have been for centuries.
Neem has over 140 active compounds that have various antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
It is used to treat pain, fever, and infections, it helps reduce blood sugar levels, and is also a treatment for ulcers, gastrointestinal troubles, and brain ailments.
Neem has antimicrobial effects and can be effective against several types of bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
In India, many toothpastes contain neem as it is not only is great for cleaning teeth and preventing tooth decay, but it can also help treat gingivitis.
It is often used to purify the blood, liver, and kidneys so great for skin health and for your hair.
Neem oil is used as a common herbal pest repellant, and effective against mosquitoes and certain fleas. Other forms of neem can repel moths.
You should never take neem if you’re pregnant, and like with all herbal supplements, always check with your GP or health care practitioner before taking them.
