Wildwood Health Worm Counts An Independent Specialist Testing laboratory Service Est.2015 for Faecal Egg Worm Counts. Equine Camelid sheep Goats Avian by Qualified Laboratory Scientist.

AMTRA Qualified RAMA GOLD STANDARD SQP. Dip AMA. FREE Veterinary approved deworming advice. Are you concerned about worms in your horses? If you're not, you should be! Researcher’s report that decades of frequent deworming of all horses without regard for season or individual horses' needs has put us on a destructive path, with worms becoming increasingly resistant to deworming drugs and no q

uick or easy solutions in sight. We have to change the way we manage parasite loads in our horses. Feacal egg counting is a fantastic development in the professional parasitological tool kit. They can be used to assess whether the chemical intervals of a worming program are suppressing egg laying activity. They can be used to detect resistance to chemical wormers and they will also detect severe parasite infections. Veterinary recommendations are to stop blanket chemical worming as there is no need. It is only by replacing the chemicals with feacal egg counting that our horses will remain safe. The incorporation of this practice into your horse health care program should commence. Do all companies and vets offer the same service? Every test involves the analysis of dung under a microscope improve the visibility of the sample. A centrifuge spins the dung and organic matter in the sample away from the eggs. With a centrifuge only the eggs are left to view. This sample is then viewed on a special slide and three counts are done to ensure accurate results are obtained for each individual sample.Every customer can then make effective decision on worming tailored for their specific requirements.

🐴 Why Regular Poo Picking Matters More Than You Think! 🌱
Keeping on top of poo picking isn’t just about having a tidy field — it plays a huge role in your horse’s health and pasture quality.
✅ Reduces worms naturally
Removing droppings frequently helps break the parasite cycle before larvae spread onto the grass.
✅ Improves grazing
Horses avoid eating near droppings, so regular picking means less wasted grass and more even grazing.
✅ Better pasture health
Stops rough, over-fertilised patches and encourages stronger, more consistent grass growth.
✅ Cuts down flies
Less manure sitting around = fewer flies bothering your horses.
✅ Cleaner, healthier environment
A well-managed field is safer, more pleasant, and easier to maintain.
⏰ How often?
Daily or a few times a week is ideal. Even once a week makes a big difference — but monthly just isn’t enough to stay ahead of worms and flies.
A little effort regularly goes a long way for happy horses and healthy paddocks! 💚

🌷 Spring is here – have you tested your horse recently? 🐎
If your horse’s last worm test or treatment was in January or earlier, now is the perfect time to carry out a Spring Worm Egg Count.
At Wildwood Worm Counts, we recommend following three simple steps to keep your horse healthy this season:
🔍 Risk assess every horse individually
🔬 Worm Egg Count to check for redworm and ascarids
💧 EquiSal saliva test for tapeworm (if it hasn’t been done in the last 6 months)
Good parasite control is about more than just testing. Remember to:
🌱 Manage grazing and regular poo picking
🛡️ Maintain good biosecurity and responsible treatments for new liveries.
🐛 Keep an eye out for signs of pinworm
🐴 Plan worm control carefully for foaling mares
A targeted approach helps protect your horse and helps prevent wormer resistance.
