SH:24

SH:24 We talk sexual and reproductive health 24/7, embracing body positivity; relationship, wellbeing and mental health; all genders and sexualities. What is SH:24?

We offer free STI testing, advice & support in partnership with the NHS: discreet, quick & confidential. SH:24 is a new way of accessing NHS sexual health services. Who is the service for? Like traditional NHS sexual health clinics, SH:24 is for everyone. But we really hope it will provide access to people most at risk and in need - particularly if you don’t currently use NHS clinics. Over the next four years we will be further developing the service to include:

Sexual health advice
Emergency hormonal contraception
General contraception
Pregnancy tests
Information on treatment options

A bit more about us
SH:24 is funded by Guy’s and St Thomas’ Charity during its four year development phase. We work in partnership with Lambeth and Southwark Public Health Directorate and two local NHS Foundation trusts. We are also available in Essex, Medway, Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire, Herefordshire and Medway working in partnership with Provide and a team of other health providers and third sector organisations. How are we designing SH:24? We are using a design-led approach which involves lots of user testing. We are building and testing the service in a number of phases. We will only move to the next phase when we have learned from your feedback, adding more features as we go. Phase one launched in March 2015 allowing people to:

🌟 Celebrating Black History Month: Anarcha, Betsey, Lucy 🌟

Anarcha, Betsey, Lucy and numerous unnamed Black women, endured non-consensual experiments under J. Marion Sims. Their pain shaped the medical knowledge we rely on today.

This Black History Month, we honour them. Their names deserve to be spoken with respect and gratitude. Black women have always been at the forefront of progress, often without recognition. Thankfully, this is starting to change.

It's Ace Week! 🖤🩶🤍💜

Sometimes known as As*xual Awareness Week, Ace Week is all about sharing information and celebrating as*xuality in all it's forms.

It might seem unusual for a s*xual health service to be posting about a lack of s*xual desire, but ace is a spectrum and ace people need s*xual healthcare that doesn't make assumptions.

To all our ace friends and followers - what do you wish more people understood about as*xuality?

✨ Black History Month Spotlight: Henrietta Lacks ✨

Henrietta Lacks’ cells, taken without her consent in 1951, changed the course of medicine forever.

Her story is a reminder that Black history is medical history. So much of modern medicine has been built on the unacknowledged contributions of Black women. This month we honour them by telling their stories and recognising their legacies.

Checking your breasts or chest is one of the simplest ways to care for your health.

✨ Get to know your normal
✨ Touch your breast tissue, look for changes
✨ Check any changes with your GP

Most changes won’t be cancer, but it’s always worth getting checked. Early detection saves lives.

Set a reminder, make it a habit, and share this with someone you love.

All about BV!

Bacterial vaginosis, or BV, happens when the balance of good bacteria in the va**na is changed. ⚖️

To reduce the chances of it happening, protect the pH balance in your va**na by:

* washing your external ge****ls with water only
* avoiding scented soaps and deodorants around the v***a
* do not do**he or wash internally - the va**na keeps itself clean!
* use barriers like gloves, dams or condoms

Did you know...? People who smoke are more likely to experience BV - specialist support services can help you quit.

Getting consent and respecting boundaries are just as important online 👏
Whether you're on a dating app, video call or texting - consent and respect for boundaries are still essential.

If you want to take your online conversations to the next level, listen to the other person and get their consent. If the person you're talking to seems uncomfortable, unable to consent or unsure about anything - stop and don’t pursue it further. Consent can be withdrawn at any time. Checking in with your partner is key and ensures ongoing consent is communicated.

If you aren’t sure what somebody is comfortable with, all you have to do is ask!
