This Brain Health Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on one of our most vital, and often overlooked, assets: the human brain 🧠

The brain and nervous system are the body’s communication network, sending and receiving millions of messages every second. The brain acts as the control centre, directing signals to and from every part of the body.

When the brain and nervous system are healthy, we can handle daily challenges, stay focused, and respond appropriately to what’s happening around us. But when they become overloaded, our mental clarity and mood can suffer. Supporting the nervous system with good nutrition, regular exercise, rest, and reduced overstimulation helps keep it functioning well.

A key part of a healthy nervous system is maintaining the right balance of neurotransmitters, the chemicals that help nerve cells communicate. These include dopamine, GABA, PEA, acetylcholine, and serotonin. When these are in balance, we feel more emotionally steady and better able to cope with stress. Lifestyle habits like proper diet, physical activity, and stress‑management techniques all help support this balance.

The body needs certain nutrients to produce these neurotransmitters. Taking daily supplements such as specific amino acids, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and herbs may help support healthy brain chemistry & improve emotional balance.

As our lifespans continue to increase, a new priority has emerged in healthcare: ensuring that our cognitive health keeps pace. Cognitive decline is no longer viewed as an unavoidable consequence of ageing but as the cumulative result of modifiable metabolic, inflammatory, vascular, and lifestyle factors.

In this article, we explore how a systems‑based approach, integrating nutrition, sleep biology, movement, stress physiology, and targeted nutraceutical support, can help maintain healthy brain ageing and preserve cognitive vitality for longer.

By looking at the interconnected processes that shape brain health over time, we can uncover practical, evidence‑informed strategies to protect cognitive function and support a thriving, resilient mind throughout life.

This Brain Health Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on one of our most vital, and often overlooked, assets: the human brain 🧠 Join our FREE webinar exclusively available to Practitioners and Students registered with Nutri-Link.

Anxiety and depression remain among the most prevalent and complex mental health conditions, often linked to dysregulation in key neurotransmitter systems both within the brain and gut. Central to their pathophysiology is the delicate balance of neurotransmitter systems that regulate mood, cognition, and stress response.

This webinar explores the neurochemical foundations of mood disorders, emphasising the intricate interplay between , dopamine, norepinephrine, GABA, and glutamate and why many types of medication and conventional treatments are only addressing the symptoms and not the root causes. You will gain a deeper understanding of how imbalances within these systems manifest as clinical symptoms and how targeted functional medicine interventions can help restore equilibrium.

Join Dr Elisabeth Philipps for an in-depth and evidence-based exploration of:

✅ The current evidence on neurotransmitter pathways, receptor sensitivity, and , highlighting how these mechanisms inform integrative treatment approaches.
✅ The role of the gut-brain axis and gut microbiome in brain health and pathophysiology.
✅ Practical strategies including optimising neurotransmitter function through support, and lifestyle modification.

Participants will leave with a clearer framework for assessing neurotransmitter imbalances; diagnostic precision and tailoring individualised treatment plans to enhance outcomes for patients with and disorders and foster more sustainable recovery.

Free Webinar - This event is only available to Practitioners and Students registered with Nutri-Link.
