Pharmacists Detecting Atrial Fibrillation - PDAF Study This is a page of the Atrial Fibrillation Screening study conducted by researchers at Medway School of Pharmacy (University of Kent).

This is a page of Pharmacists Detecting Atrial Fibrillation (PDAF) study conducted by researchers at the Medway School of Pharmacy, University of Kent. If you are aged 65 years or over you may be eligible for a free pulse check with the clinical Pharmacist between September 2017 and January 2018 with your annual Flu vaccination. Your surgery is offering you the opportunity to have your pulse tested, by the clinical Pharmacist as part of a study with researchers at the University of Kent, to find the best way to screen people at risk of developing Atrial Fibrillation (AF). AF is an irregular heart rhythm which means the heart has to work harder. Left untreated you have an increased risk of stroke and heart failure. A simple pulse check could help detect an abnormal heart rhythm or rate. If you choose to participate in the study, during a research appointment, a clinical Pharmacist will measure your pulse and electrical activity of your heart using a non-invasive, painless single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG). For more information about the study, visit our official website here: www.msp.ac.uk/afstudy

To find out more about atrial fibrillation, visit the British Heart Foundation website: https://www.bhf.org.uk/heart-health/conditions/atrial-fibrillation

If you have any immediate questions or concerns about the study, do not hesitate to post these in the forum of this page. We will endeavour to address your questions or concerns in due time or, where appropriate, will refer you to an appropriate resource.
