This is a bison. It walks straight into a snow storm, it doesn’t turn away.
Be more Bison.

True strength lies not in ignoring challenges, but in facing them head-on with clear eyes and a gritty spirit.

Walk head on into the storm, remain rational and factual.

This is serious, and a time to be realistic.

Facing reality head-on and staying motivated through adversity is a true test of resilience. It’s like building mental muscle that can endure setbacks and keep us going.
 
Here’s why a dose of realism can be the game-changer:

Embracing reality and recognising the hurdles you face allows you to build true resilience and find effective strategies.

Realism doesn’t mean being negative or pessimistic. A balanced view can provide more sustained motivation by preparing you for the ups and downs of your journey.

How can you change 20+ years of habits?

Habits are great – humans LOVE habits, rituals and routines. They happen automatically, there’s no need to think about them.

They give you structure, purpose and they increase your stress resilience: Whilst stress is a reaction to adverse circumstances, a routine is a well-known situation - you know what’s going and you know what to do because you have done it before.

But what happens if your habits don’t support your wellbeing, your healthy body and brain?

Do you automatically jump in the car to drive to the postbox which is only a few hundred metres away?
Do you reach for a bottle of wine on a Friday night?
Does a challenging situation always let you reach for a chocolate bar?

Here are a few starting points that may help you:

Don’t let more than one day slip  - we all have days when only chocolate or wine will help (or so we think). But then recommit and get back to your routine.

Or use microhabits. 
End your shower with a minute of cold water
Every time you put your phone down, have a sip of water.
Park your car a block away from your meeting and walk a few minutes (and don’t drive to the post box!)

I don’t say that habits are easy to break. But it’s certainly not impossible!

B vitamins and Zinc – your secret weapon for energy and good mood!

If you are always tired, watch out for B vitamins! There are eight of them, they are essential for energy production whilst vitamin B5 and B6 are natural stress-helpers and mood lifters.

You can get your B’s easy –  lean meats, fish, poultry, eggs but also watercress, mushrooms, spinach, dairy products, bananas. If you are vegan, you should take a B12 supplement as there are no plant sources available.

Sadly, our body doesn’t store B vitamins well. You lose them rather quickly and they should be topped up regularly!

Zinc is essential for healing, helps you cope with stress and supports your immune system. One of those all-rounders you don’t want to miss in your diet! You can find good amounts in meat, shellfish, lentils, nuts, eggs, oats and almonds.

If you like to add both B vitamins and zinc into your diet, meal ideas would be 
¡       Chicken breast, brown lentils and fresh watercress 
¡   Omelette with mushrooms and spinach
¡       Yoghurt, dry roasted sunflower seeds and chopped almonds

Tomorrow is Pancake Day! Yay! Maybe it’s just me but isn’t pancake day the best day of the year? But what about a healthier version? I promise, nobody will notice!

It’s about the little things that keep all of us going these days….

You can make both the batter as well as the toppings super healthy and add in foods that give your body and brain a welcome boost in those last winter days:

Instead of white flour, use ground almonds to give your pancakes a protein kick which will keep you full and satisfied for longer!

For the toppings you can use any fresh or stewed fruit you like, maybe some nut butter for good fats. I have got a great recipe for you, you can download it here: www.pancakeday.carrd.co

February is Heart Health month! Do you know how to help your heart, make a heart-healthy lifestyle a priority? No problem! Let’s have a look:

Eat well: Soluble and insoluble fibre can help lower your cholesterol naturally – oats & barley, berries, wholegrains, all nuts and seeds.

Increase Folic Acid, it breaks down the amino acids that can damage your arteries: get your Brussel sprouts, sunflower seeds and sea food (plus asparagus in May)

Reduce saturated fats and trans fats: fatty meats, dairy like cheese (sorry), butter, fried foods, biscuits, margarine.

Be active: whatever activity means to you, it’s good for your heart!

If you can, do isometric exercises:
Wall sits are great – according to the British Heart Foundation the most effective exercise to lower your blood pressure!

Coronary heart disease is still one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Please look after your  ❤️ !
