KINDNESS // This quote today reminds us how important kindness is. It is so easy to become so singular at the moment and focus on just your own life and needs but with such a chaotic time we are living in, spreading kindness feels like a great antidote to it. What can you do today to spread a bit of sunshine?

TREE INSPIRATION // I was on a beautiful dog walk yesterday taking my friends dog Tigger out and I just had to stop for a moment and take in the beauty and bird song and just feel really grateful to be living in a place full of amazing trees. This photo is of a local tree that I took recently and it had the most magnificent roots, reminding me of the inspiration and life advice we can take from our wise friends - the trees! Thank you Joanne Raptis for this wise quote. What inspires you?

HOW DO YOU SEE THE WORLD? // I was thinking about what to post today and I felt drawn to share this photo. When I look through a lot of my photos, something stands out. I like to play around with angles and viewpoints and perhaps don’t always take straight, traditionally frame photos. And I definitely feel like it reflects where I am at the moment and also how I like to coach and support my clients. I try to see situations, people and life generally from a different perspective and maybe not my default one or the one that society teaches us to follow. How do you view the world? Can you challenge yourself to see a situation or a person from a different perspective today and it might help move through something or ease your stress.

If you are interested in transformative life coaching and you feel you might benefit from working with a coach, who can see your situation from a different perspective, then do get in touch. I am always happy to jump on a free video chat or call to explore how coaching could benefit you. Contact me on sarah@arboricoaching.co.uk or DM me.

HOW TO GROUND // Did you know that decluttering your space helps you feel more grounded? Decluttering your space is very similar to decluttering your mind of things to let go of. If items don’t bring you joy and you haven’t used or worn something in the last year, then let it go and fill your space with things that do bring you value and make you happy. It is really hard to be grounded in an over cluttered area mentally and physically. So seeing it is Spring are you springing into action and decluttering your home? How does it make you feel and is it helping you ground?

WHAT IS SELF LOVE? // Today I feel drawn to share a reminder about self love. Life seems hard going at the moment so maybe it’s time for an important reminder to show ourselves love. So what is self love? Mindful Musing shared this great quote. “Self love is a constant choice. It’s not a magical feeling that appears to you one day. It’s a commitment to your boundaries, your wellbeing, your mental & emotional health & your body.”

GETTING OUTDOORS // I was out on a lovely walk in Wotton under Edge recently as it is so important for me and my health and well-being to get out in to countryside on a regular basis. And it reminded me of some research that I found. Did you know that people that spend two hours a week in green spaces are substantially more likely to report good health and psychological wellbeing than those who don’t? This was based on a study of 20,000 people completed by Matthew White at the European Centre for Environment & Human Health at the University of Exeter in June 2019. Not rocket science but it’s good to be reminded that there is definite benefit for getting out there. That is definitely why I ended up moving to live in this funky but beautiful little town, it is so close to countryside and I can just pop out for a walk in my lunch break. How can you find those two hours a week to connect and ground yourself?

SPRING INTO ACTION // Over the last few years, I have felt more aligned to nature’s seasons and following its lead on actions to take. Spring signifies when growth starts again above the ground and trees and plants are bursting into life and blossoming. So after a long winter, I see this is a time to put those thoughts and ideas into action. It’s time to start bringing a project to life perhaps or making physical changes to a situation you are not happy with. How are you springing into life?

MY JOURNEY TO MINDFULNESS // I often think about why am I so passionate about wanting to share simple mindfulness tools and skills with people and specifically younger people. It is because I know first hand, how transformational having these skills can be for coping with modern day life and I wonder how my life might have been if I had found these skills earlier.

I experienced a serious life event 11 years ago which left me lucky to be able to walk. Not sure how I got there but living a life full of stress and burnout definitely was the main contributing factor. At this time, I took a 8 week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course (MBSR) which helped me bed in my mindfulness practice. Since this time, I have had a regular meditation practice and meditation practice.

Breath work, grounding, yoga & mindful movement, a quick walk in nature, hugging a tree, grounding myself, meditating, being present, practicing active listening or mindful eating have all helped me stay present and be in the discomfort and then come out of the other side.

I found the Mindfulness NOW course last year and it appealed as it has taken a lot of the fundamental elements of the globally known MBSR course and combined the MBCT as well as Nick Cooke adding his own learnings to develop a really practical and approachable course that is suitable for all. I loved my MBSR course but I did see a lot of my fellow students really struggle with being able to commit to the amount of practice that was expected of them. Many people struggled to find the time when they had children especially. So this is where I think Mindfulness NOW is perfect for everyone.

It’s not too late to sign up to my free taster session on Tuesday 7pm or if you can’t make this day/time - do reach out via DM or by email sarah@arboricoaching.co.uk and we can plan a free 30 min chat so we can see how learning these simple and quick mindfulness tools could be really useful for your own toolkit to cope with life.

WHAT IS MINDFULNESS? // This is a very common question that I get asked a lot. Simply put, mindfulness is a way of being and living your life that can be said to be a radical act of love to ourselves. With the growth of technology and increased connectively in modern day times, most humans are connected a lot of the time, but one can question if they are in touch with themselves, within their inner landscape of their own lives – their own mind and body.

As a society, most of us are constantly in the ‘doing mode’ but we are often not in the ‘being mode’. Mindfulness invites us to just ‘be in the present moment’ in all aspects of our life and not on automatic pilot, whether that be in a more formal mindfulness practice like within a seated or guided meditation or an informal practice where you are practicing being present in your life – whether being present while you are cleaning your teeth or doing the washing up.

Jon Kabat-Zinn, the Godfather of Mindfulness summed it up pretty well in his first book ‘Full Catastrophe Living’ as; ‘The awareness that arises by paying attention on purpose, in the present moment and non-judgementally.’

Practicing mindfulness can give people permission to do something radical for themselves and experience with living intentionally from moment to moment.

Are you always in doing mode and are you wanting to find more presence in your everyday life? If this is you - then why not sign up to my free taster in the link below, which is taking place next Tuesday and will give you a taste of the easy practical tools that the Mindfulness NOW programme can offer you.

MINDFULNESS CLIENT TESTIMONIAL // I am very happy to share this lovely testimonial from a client who I have worked with recently - supporting her with being more present and sharing the impactful and real Mindfulness NOW programme.

“I went to Sarah because my mind just wouldn’t slow down. I constantly felt distracted, like I was always chasing time. I struggled with being present and really listening, even though I wanted to. I didn’t want complicated mindfulness theories. I wanted simple, real tools that I could actually use in my everyday life. That’s exactly what Sarah gave me. She has this honest, humble, direct way of guiding you. She challenges you, but in a good way, the kind that helps you grow without feeling pushed. The techniques she shared were practical and doable. Small shifts that made a big difference. I’m more present in conversations, less frustrated with myself and more aware of when my mind starts racing. I feel more grounded. Calmer. Not perfect,
but better, in a very real way. I’m so grateful for her help. Thank you.” Head of Marketing, aged 48, Kent.

Can you relate? If you would like to find some calm in the storm and gain some practical skills to cope with modern day living then why not attend my up and coming free 30 minute taster session on the 3rd March 7pm. Look out for a link to sign up soon.
