Guided Pilgrimage Pilgrimage denotes both an inner and an outer journey. What we offer at Guided Pilgrimage is a chance to experience pilgrimage in wild celtic landscapes.

The blackbirds are singing again in Wales, the hellebores and snowdrops are appearing, the light returning after the rain – all reminders of the resilience of nature, a beacon of hope in what are very dark times for so many people and nations across our planet

And this weekend we celebrate the pagan spring festival of Imbolc and the feast day of the Goddess / Saint Brigit of Ireland – what a powerful time. I am very much looking forward to joining in with the Gŵyl y Golau at Dinefwr NT/YG to light the fire and hear the stories and songs by Dreaming the Land - Angharad Wynne and Simmy Singh on violin.

Solstice Blessings 🍂🔥 and Christmas greetings to all 🎁
Just before starting the Christmas break, I wanted to share the last few lines of an inspiring poem by R S Thomas called 'Threshold'. It so speaks to our times but also the nature of pilgrimage:

" ..... To look forward? Ah,

what balance is needed at
the edges of such an abyss.
I am alone on the surface
of a turning planet. What

to do but, like Michelangelo’s
Adam, put my hand
out into unknown space,
hoping for the reciprocating touch?"

So over the Christmas break, perhaps give it some thought about coming on pilgrimage in 2026 and putting your hand out into unknown space.

Have you given some thought to going on pilgrimage in 2026 🥾? Small group pilgrimage offers so much - one pilgrim who walked The Way of St David with us referred to 'the mysterious chemistry that can bring 9 unique people together in such a way and create a pilgrimage atmosphere that was quite inspiring'.

Add that sprinkle of magic to the 'walks along beautiful cliffs beside the sea, reverent moments at spiritual places, and unique accommodations in harmony with our purpose' and you have something truly special.

🎁Give yourself that gift for 2026. We would love to be on pilgrimage with you. See our website at http://guidedpilgrimage.co.uk.

Join us on the WAY OF ST DAVID pilgrimage in May or June 2026. Springtime in Pembrokeshire is one of the most breathtakingly beautiful times to be there - the wild flowers put on such a glorious show.

We walk gently through these ancient and wild Celtic landscapes past neolithic burial chambers, iron age hillforts and holy wells. Spiritual but not religious, we are open to all faiths and those of no faith.

We spend 6 days / 5 nights walking from Fishguard to St Davids along one of the world's most stunning coastal paths. You walk lightly with just a day pack and your luggage is moved for you. Everything is included so you have time for you! We have small groups (no more than 10) with experienced pilgrimage guides.

Do you think this a mast year for oak apples too? I seem to be seeing more of them in our local woodlands than I can remember. 🍂

These oak apples or oak galls are created by gall wasps whose larvae will sit out the winter in these round galls which drop to the forest floor on leaves to be sheltered in the leaf mulch. It always feel special to find them. In spring, the adult wasp will work its way out. Wonderful nature! 👏

Samhain blessings to all 🍂. Today is the first day of the Celtic Festival of Samhain which traditionally spans three days. These three days have been absorbed into the Christian tradition and renamed as All Hallows Day (31 Oct), All Saints Day (01 Nov) and All Souls Day (02 Nov).

Samhain honours the shift from summer to winter (in the northern hemisphere), the light months to the dark months. By this time, in the past, animals would have been slaughtered and preserved for over-wintering, crops stored and we would begin to become more hearth based as the days draw in. Celebrational fires would have been lit to recognise this move from the light into the dark 🔥.

This is the time when the veil between our world and other possible worlds is at it’s thinnest giving rise to the modern-day spookiness of Halloween. But it is also an opportunity to give thanks for our dearly departed – a central theme of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico on 02 Nov. So, there is a wonderful overlap of ceremonies on many levels.

In no time at all we will be at the winter solstice, the shortest day, where we again turn a corner and head for the light. I wish you time for yourself over these coming winter months, hoping that you can stay warm and dry with time to reflect, restore and replenish. Time to be dormant like Mother Nature around us.

All credit to the merry band of troupers who turned out for the Walkers are Welcome 5-mile walk from Lampeter to Llangybi yesterday. Except for a short shower at the start and a blast of hail from the frozen north when we were at the highest point (of course!), it wasn't too bad for a day forecasted to have some wet autumnal weather - we got off lightly!

In that short walk we visited a motte and bailey 11th Century castle, an iron age hillfort site and finished at a healing holywell. So much in such a short space. The next Walkers are Welcome walk will be on 15th November along the Taith Dyffryn Teifi / Teifi Valley Trail .

Popped in to see progress that are making at St Lawrence Church in Gumfreston and they are doing wonders. Already this delightful church from the 12th to 14th centuries is looking more stable and loved. Thank you all those who are making this possible including 🙏

The wells here are fascinating - three of them which are said to arise from three different sources and have different healing properties. Friends of Friendless Churches quotes 'spring water for legs, chalybeate-rich water for hands and arms, and sulphurous water for eyes' - you could almost do a full medical in one visit 😀

Due to continuing repair work, you cannot yet go into the church itself but there is a notice on the door saying that a further £30,000 is required if anyone wants to give to a worthy cause!

As part of our project to complete the length of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, we spent a few days walking in southern Pembrokeshire earlier in the month. Blessed with wonderful weather, we were presented with pristine empty beaches and aquamarine waters that would match any Caribbean Island. High cliff walking with some serious drops meant you had to keep your head down and concentrate but then you have to stop to appreciate the far reaching views and the glory of it all.

I tend to walk the Coast Path around St Davids a lot on the pilgrimages we offer so this was a welcome change - similar but different. Feeling very blessed to live in west Wales with such wonder on our doorstep. Still got about half the path to complete so plenty more to appreciate!

Also a shout out for the delightful in Pembroke which served great food and is newly refurbished. Thanks for a really lovely stay and we will be back!

This year we have been in search of puffins seeing them first on the Farne Islands in Northumberland in May and then early July on Skomer. What an amazing experience Skomer was - unbelievably wonderful and unbeatable 👏

We were blessed with a sunny day and flat calm waters for the 20 minute boat ride to the island. We had 5 hours on the island and you need every minute of your time there for the birds (not just puffins but guillemots, razor bills, gannets and more) and the stunning scenery. I had read Rosanne Alexander's wonderful book about Skomer, 'Waterfalls of Stars', so I was prepared for the wonder of the island but it still took my breath away. It is not an island for humans! It belongs to the birds; it belongs to nature.

Can't wait to return and next year we hope to get a precious place to stay overnight to be in the midst of 300,000 breeding pairs of Manx Shearwaters who only come out at night!

📸 images from Skomer - just an old phone, no fancy lens so you can imagine how close we were to the birds.

We had the last of our Teifi Valley Trail 'taster' days last week with a good turnout. We have now covered the full length of this new 80+ mile route following the River Teifi from source to sea.

Things are progressing well with the website just about to be made generally available and we are also creating a guide book which will hopefully be published later this year or early 2026 depending on progress! I shall let you know when the website is fully available.
