The Rise to Rest Ritual

A moving meditation that settles into stillness. This 90 minute workshop combines two of my big loves, the mindful flow of movement and breath, and the stillness and surrender of Yoga Nidra.

I joined Cat Jemmy Nutrition & Fitness about a year and a half ago and started strength training for the first time ever! I never thought I’d be a gym girlie, but I really love it and I love how it compliments my own yoga practice. I started the gym as a total beginner and have slowly been getting stronger week by week.

I’ve started offering yoga at the gym on a Friday so that the women who train with Cat can experience how well strength training and yoga work together.

Last weekend Cat and I hosted our very first retreat at Kribben Cottages in Newcastle and had such a wholesome and restful weekend with an amazing group of women. We are already planning the next Retreat!

AUTUMN EQUINOX / RESTORATIVE YOGA & YOGA NIDRA

Join me on Monday evening at 6.30pm in Barefoot Body & Soul to mark the Autumn Equinox. A chance to pause, reflect and realign with natures cycles.

This time of year is a time of balance, day and night are equal in length and we are encouraged to take a moment to pause, to remember our intentions we set for the past year and look forward to all that is yet to come!

Week 6 in the Chakra series (that I almost forgot to post) is the Third Eye / Ajna Chakra.

It is located behind the eyebrow centre and is our energy centre that governs our intuition, insight and our imagination. It connects us to our own inner wisdom and our inner guide.

As we move up the chakras it becomes less about the physical body and more about that inner exploration.

In my class this week I’ve been inviting my students to close their eyes and move through certain poses to allow the gaze and focus to remain inwards.

This chakra is associated with our sixth sense, the element of light, and the colour indigo 💜

This week we’re exploring the fifth chakra which is the Throat Chakra / Vishuddha

It is located in the throat, this chakra is linked to the element of space/ether and our sense of sound and is associated with the colour blue. It’s the energy center that shapes how we express ourselves and how we listen to others.

This chakra is where we find our authentic voice, the ability to communicate with clarity, to stand up for ourselves and speak up for what is right. It also supports our capacity to listen, to ourselves and to others.

We’ll look at different asana that open the throat and chest to create space in the body, as well as connecting to our own voice by incorporating Brahmani Breathing throughout the practice.

Week 4 in the Chakra Series and we are looking at the Heart Chakra / Anahata 💚

It is located around the chest and shoulders and is associated with the Air element, our sense of touch and the colour green. It’s the energy centre that connects us to love, compassion, joy and empathy.

The Heart Chakra is our centre of unconditional love, where we allow ourselves to be open, to receive love and to give love, opening the space for a deeper connection to ourselves, to others and the bigger world around us. With a willingness and openness to love we can learn to forgive others and not be so hard on ourselves!

This week in my classes we will move through different asanas that open up the chest and create space in the heart centre, allowing the breath to feel light and expansive. We’ll finish our practice with a short loving kindness meditation.
