**IS THIS FOR ME?**

If you are interested in Mindfulness, either as a form of spiritual practice or as a practical technique for living a better, calmer, more focused and more productive life, then yes. We hold regular, weekly meetings which offer (in a friendly, relaxed and informal atmosphere) the opportunity to learn about Mindfulness, to try-out some Mindfulness techniques and methods of Mindfulness meditation, plus the chance to meet and get to know other people who are interested in Mindfulness, or in meditation in general. Our weekly meetings include:

talks by guest speakers
a period of Mindfulness meditation
regular film or video presentations
information about Mindfulness events, classes and courses that are happening locally
the opportunity to get to know other members of the group in an easy, relaxed way over refreshments
All are welcome and membership is free

Our meetings are very friendly, casual and "open" - they provide an opportunity to encounter Mindfulness in an easy and straightforward way. Meetings take place every week on Thursday evening at Sobar on Friar Lane from 7pm to approximately 9pm. There is a small admission charge to help cover room hire and other costs - £5 for waged and £3 for unwaged/concessions. Refreshments are available.

What goes through your mind when you’ve made a mistake, or are just feeling down? Does your inner voice sound like a caring, supportive friend—or like a pestering, harsh critic?

How self-compassionate are you? This test is designed to help you find out. It’s based on the scientifically validated Self-Compassion Scale developed by Kristin Neff.

I just came back from a silent retreat last week and I’d say it’s like doing Iron Man for the mind – not for everyone. It’s hell at the start but heaven by the end, especially if you make it to the end. Your brain constantly is having a hissy fit as it spits abuse at you – hour after hour, and you just sit there, not giving in. I thought it felt like I was having to babysit my own garbage.

If you don’t feel like doing mindfulness twelve hours a day, getting up at 6am with a gong, or giving up all distractions (i.e. your iPhone), you can still train your brain at home.
The thing is, you have to do it regularly, even if it’s just a few minutes a few times a day. Just like physical exercise, you have to commit to it – you won’t get a six-pack with just one sit-up. Think of it as taking your brain to the gym and working it out. You have to do it, not just plan to do it but think about it, everything you’ve ever learned is through practice (including walking, talking, even eating with a fork). Why should training your ability to focus, become present, increase your compassion and lower your stress be any different?

So wherever you are, practice feeling the sensations of your feet on the ground, bum on the chair, and then send to your breath – focusing on the depth, texture, speed.
Your mind will scream for you to get up and ‘do something’ urgently like eat a sandwich or hoover your carpets but you just notice those thoughts and with kindness, gently take your focus back to your breath and notice each inhale and exhale.

Eventually, the mind surrenders because you’re not obeying its every demand and when it gives up – that’s the road to freedom.

This Thursday - 'Moving From Personal Misery & Negativity To A Positive Outlook'
With Top Teaching From A Host Of Mindfulness Experts
Our ONLINE Weekly Meeting - Join Live or Watch The Video Recording
At our Thursday Mindfulness Meeting this week we'll be looking at how we can use Mindfulness to shift ourselves (radically and permanently) from a place of frequent negativity (and unhappiness) to instead develop a "positive outlook" - not an artificial or superficial gloss on life, but rather the genuine ability to be less caught-up in the negative and to have much greater openness to the positive, the good, and the up-lifting. 7pm start.

This article comes from the point of using Mindfulness as a tool to reduce a problem and has some nice ideas to bring to your life. However, If we take on Mindfulness as a lifestyle change, as a way of bringing positive change into your life such as more gratitude, or joy, or even be more present with the ones around us we love, a side effect is a reduction in what you want to go away such as stress, or anxiety.
This comes down to intention. What is our intention? What do we want to practice, what do we want to cultivate with our life? Is it a positive intention that allows what already is to be there, or one that focuses on wanting difficult stuff to go away?

We aren’t machines, so we all need a break every now and then. Here’s how sparing a few moments to enjoy the little things in life can help you reset and recharge both physically and mentally
