Walk Yorkshire Walk Yorkshire Holidays, specialists in bespoke and themed walking holidays in one of England’s most beautiful counties.

The idea for Walk Yorkshire holidays was born from a lifelong passion for the outstanding natural beauty of Yorkshire and a deep desire to share that beauty with others. Kevin Borwell was brought up in the small North Yorkshire village of Stillington and knows firsthand where to find the most beautiful and breathtaking views he first discovered roaming the hills and dales as a child.

“I fell in love with rural Yorkshire from an early age and there’s nowhere else on earth I’d rather be. Even after more than thirty years walking in the National Parks here, there’s always something new to discover. It’s not just the beauty, which is there for all to see, it’s the diverse terrain and the unpredictability of the climate which makes Yorkshire such a magnificent place to explore.”

A former Royal Marine Mountain Leader, survival expert ski, instructor and a qualified first aid instructor Kevin has handpicked a team of experienced guides who share his enthusiasm for the Yorkshire countryside. All our guides are also first aid qualified.

“We are all passionate about where we walk and we’ve all got our own stories to tell and anecdotes to share to bring this breathtaking area to life and to add colour and character to the walks. And we believe the hotels we’ve chosen for you will really compliment your stay. Many are themselves steeped in history and have their own local legends to pass on.”

DARK SKIES recce
Back to Goathland and Heartbeat country to finally nail the route for the dark skies event at the end of October. For the time of year it was delightful with only a few small rain showers. We got sorted out with a nice 5 miler for the event so all ended well.
Next onto Robin Hoods Bay for a couple of nights and checking out the route from the Bay to where the CW meets the C2C and up to the cinder track and the return walk back into the Bay. All told about 6 miles circular route. Nice to see some upgrades and improvements along the CW very welcome. So all been well we look forward to seeing some of you on the trail in both daytime and in the dark, praying for no cloud cover and lots of stars.

On Sunday Walk Yorkshire were asked to entertain and guide 2 German journalists on a walk in the National Park courtesy of Visit England. Thankfully the weather was much kinder than on the Saturday and we all had a very enjoyable walk. For a bit of variety we decided on the Wainstones circuit via the 3 sisters.
We enjoyed the coffee break at Lord Stones (and the cake) Which gave me time to give them both a run down of some of the history surrounding the NP both fact and fiction, before heading off towards the Wainstones. They both had a great time but I suppose the proof will be in the pudding when they finish editing and submit their finished article. I got the impression they work for a German equator Country Walking or Trail magazine.

Well what a great five days we had in total, working our way around some fantastic walks in Heartbeat Country. We brought this little trip to an end in this magical place with a walk offering a bit of everything.
We set off by walking the Centenary Way from the Inn on the Moor to the Church End, from there up onto the moor, past the tarn and steady away up to Simon Howe., with magnificent views across Goathland Moor and Cropton Forest. From here we headed off on the LWW path and down to the stepping stones, once across we ascended the bank and onto the old Roman Road. We followed the route back towards Goathland but turned off and descended down to the Mallyan Spout, we followed the trail back to Goathland via Incline cottage and the Rail Trail before passing Scripp’s garage and back towards Goathland the Inn on the Moor.
Total distance about 8.5 miles.
Our stay at the Inn on the Moor was superb and very welcoming. Nicola and Jack and all the brilliant staff were so welcoming and what a great place this is. The rooms are lovely and the food is exceptional.
I must also mention the hotel is totally dog friendly and open to all dog owners whether walkers or not.
On arrival and to our amazement Barney had a doggie bag with treats and a toy. The Inn on the Moor is highly recommended and we will be back soon.

A fabulous few days in Goathland checking out new routes for the Dark Skies event coming in October. 4 days great walking, staying at the Inn on the Moor, fantastic venue with an excellent and varied menu. None residents very welcome by the lovely staff.
Looking forward to my next visit, as looking to add some longer walks to our portfolio.
