Yoga to me is a way of life, I couldn’t be without it and I practice as much as I can. When life gets in the way, as it does with a busy family life (toddler, a young baby and a full time job), like most of us, I can start to feel unbalanced, stressed and overwhelmed. Once I’m back on my mat however I feel the uplifting effect on the body, mind and spirit and my world comes back into balance.
I am not a naturally flexible person and as a youngster I remember always feeling uncomfortable trying to sit crossed legged in class and trying with all my might to touch my toes in gym class!
I’m still not the most physically flexible person in the world. However, I have got a lot better through regular practice and making changes to my lifestyle.
Despite what people think, Yoga is not about how beautiful you look in a pose during asana practice. It’s about connecting the mind and the body with the breath, balancing out the left and the right side of the body, calming the nervous system and being present in that moment (something we as a society find very difficult in this day in age).
My story
Everyone has his or her own story for discovering Yoga. I have had a start/stop love affair with Yoga since I was 18 (trying to balance out that party life style in my younger years) but it wasn’t until 2014 that Yoga literally saved my life.
During the late stages of pregnancy, at full term, I lost my daughter. Coming home from the hospital without my first-born child was the darkest moment of my life. The only thing I felt capable of doing was Yoga, in which I found my salvation. It gave me strength; mentally, physically and emotionally, and with regular asana practice and meditation I was slowly brought back to life.
The power of Yoga astonishes me everyday. Seeing and learning the benefits of this amazing healing system I want to share these teachings with others, in the hope that my students will find peace, serenity and the blissfulness in Yoga like I do.
Gratitude
I thank my husband and family for their constant support, and the healing system of Yoga for allowing me to be my true self.
Namaste
