Barnsley Hospice provides specialist palliative care and support to hundreds of local people and their families each year.

Barnsley Hospice is a charity (reg number 700586) providing specialist palliative and end of life care for people living with a life-limiting illness and those close to them. Our main priority is to achieve the best possible quality of life for patients with a life limiting diseases, whilst supporting their families, during periods of illness and at the end of life. As a specialist care provider, the range of skills we offer include, pain and symptom management, emotional support and bereavement support. We are a charity - our care is free for patients but not free to provide. We are funded through an NHS grant, plus the generous donations and fundraising efforts of our community and supporters. Please note, we care for patients at home, in the community and at the hospice. We care for patients with all life-limiting illnesses - not just cancer. And, we support patients' families and those close to them too.

We’re so excited to share that Perrigo Company plc, a local business, has now raised, in total, an incredible £100,000 for Barnsley Hospice! 🥳

Since 2009, Perrigo and its staff have supported us through various creative and generous fundraising activities. From their very first donation in lieu of Christmas cards, to hosting quizzes and even donating £15,000 towards our Comfort and Care campaign back in 2018.

Their ongoing support has been nothing short of outstanding. The milestone was achieved this September when b staff took part in a ‘100,000 Steps Challenge’. Not only did this fundraiser push them over the £100,000 mark, but their combined efforts also saw them clock up an amazing three million steps! The grand total was revealed to the team during a glow-in-the-dark Zumba celebration, organised by their dedicated ‘Perrigo Charity Crew’.

It’s the support of local businesses like Perrigo that makes our work possible. Without this generosity, we couldn’t continue providing specialist palliative and end of life care for the people of Barnsley and their families.

Ella Beale, Head of Fundraising and Marketing, said:
“We are so grateful to Perrigo and all of their staff and supporters for their continued fundraising for the hospice. To reach £100,000 is a remarkable achievement and they should all be extremely proud to have raised such an incredible amount, which has gone a long way in providing specialist care to the people of Barnsley and their loved ones. A hundred thousand pounds is equivalent to around 150 days of care for a patient at the hospice, which is amazing. Support from local companies like Perrigo is vital to ensure that we can continue being there for the people of Barnsley. We thank them all from the bottom of our hearts.”

Our Make a Will Month appointments are happening right now - book yours today to avoid missing out! 📅

This September, we’ve partnered with six local solicitors who are kindly waiving their usual fees in exchange for a donation to Barnsley Hospice for their Will writing services. As part of our Make a Will Month you can get a Simple Will for a suggested minimum donation of £100 or a pair of Mirror Wills for a suggested minimum donation of £180.

This year, we’re excited to have to Make a Will Month. 🧡

“Barnsley Hospice support people and families at what is often the most difficult time of their lives. Ison Harrison are happy to volunteer their time and expertise for such a brilliant and caring charity.”

Jessica also explains why it’s so important to keep your Will up to date:
“Circumstances change, so reviewing your will ensures it still aligns with your wishes. The law also changes so reviewing your will with a solicitor gives you an opportunity to ensure you are aware of any changes applicable to you, such as inheritance tax changes.”

Ready to check a big task off your list? - Our Make a Will Month is the perfect opportunity to get it done! ✍️

This September, you can have your Will written by a professional solicitor in exchange for a donation to Barnsley Hospice. With appointments happening right now, you can get a Simple Will for a suggested minimum donation of £100 or a pair of Mirror Wills for £180.

Charlotte Brookes, a Solicitor at the firm, shared some key reasons why making a Will is so vital. It's more than just a document; its peace of mind for you and your loved ones:

👉Your Wishes, Honoured: If you die without a Will, there are certain rules (the intestacy rules) which dictate how your estate (money, property and possessions) should be allocated. This may not be the way that you would have wished your estate to be distributed.

👉 Protect Your Partner: Unmarried partners and partners who have not registered a civil partnership cannot inherit from each other unless there is a Will, so the death of one partner may create serious financial problems for the remaining partner.

👉 Secure Your Children's Future: If you have children, you will need to make a Will so that arrangements for the children can be made if either one or both parents die.

🎄Elf Run is back for 2025, and our Christmas Crew are heading out and about to recruit ‘elves’ of all ages to join in the fun and make a difference to their local hospice this Christmas.

We were jolly to have over 10,000 elves take part last year, together raising over £37,000 through sponsorship and donations to support the specialist care we provide to local families when they need it most. Taking part is simple:

✅ Register your team's interest on our website, and we’ll provide a FREE elf hat to everyone taking part.

📌 Pick a date, route and distance for your run – this is completely up to you! It may be around town, along a trail or laps around a local park or field.

💰 Print out a sponsor form or set up a JustGiving page to collect donations, then complete your run and be proud that you’ve made a difference to your local community.

This fundraiser would not be possible without the incredible support of White's Bakery Limited, which, for the fifth consecutive year, is sponsoring Elf Run again. The team also very kindly donated some yummy cookies to include in our goodie bags for schools. 🧡
