Consultation: Draft Workplace Mental Health First Aid Standards

Following a successful round of engagement with a variety of external stakeholders across multiple sectors and with diverse lived experiences, MHFA England® has drafted a set of Workplace Mental Health First Aid Standards.

These standards are informed by MHFA England’s experience as the national authority on Mental Health First Aid, since inception in 2007. They’ve been informed by the views and suggestions of stakeholders, including the voices of over 4,000 MHFAiders®, to help employers embed Mental Health First Aid effectively, consistently and sustainably across their organisations.

Feedback on these draft standards is now sought from employers, employees, MHFAiders, MHFA England Instructor Members, policymakers, unions, professional bodies and anyone with an interest in workplace mental health.

Your feedback will help MHFA England refine and strengthen the standards before they’re finalised.

The consultation will remain open until Wednesday 10 December 2025.

This quote, from a beautiful book by Richard Bach, speaks to me of the freedom we can find in being truly ourselves. Many of us have learnt to edit our behaviour and present ourselves in a way that we think will gain us approval or keep us safe. But if we come to identify with this edited persona, we may lose touch with our true self, leading to depression or other forms of dis-ease.

can help us reconnect to our true self and experience the freedom and empowerment that such authenticity brings.

I currently have spaces in my and practices for in-room, walk & talk/ecotherapy and online therapy. To arrange a FREE 20-minute call to explore how we might work together and address any questions you may have, please email:

Feeling overwhelmed? You're not alone.

The focus for this year's World Mental Health Day is the mental health impact of repeated exposure to news coverage of crises and conflicts.

There are many distressing things happening in the world at present. Even if you're not directly affected by events, it can still feel like a lot to cope with. It's okay to ask for help, no matter what you or anyone else is going through.

We may not have the power to influence or change everything we’d like to on a global scale. But there are things we can do to protect ourselves and others from feeling overwhelmed and hopeless in the face of current events.

What can you do today to support your mental health and that of the people around you?

If we find love lacking in our lives, we may believe that we just need to keep seeking it outside of ourselves, awaiting the 'perfect' person to give it to us.

Rumi suggests that a lack of love stems from the internal barriers we have created against love. We create such barriers for a reason: to protect ourselves from pain. can help us bring these barriers into awareness...and then bring compassionate understanding to their purpose.

I currently have availability for in-person and online therapy, weekday daytimes and evenings. For a free, 20-minute call to discuss your needs, questions and explore how we might work together, please email:

Nearly two-thirds of people (66%) have experienced at least one mental health issue in the past five years. However, nearly half of men (47%) think there is a stigma attached to having therapy.*

The stigma is rooted in societal expectations and stereotypes regarding masculinity and emotional vulnerability. Many people believe that seeking support or expressing emotions other than anger are signs of weakness. In such cases, men often turn to unhealthy coping strategies such as misusing alcohol or overworking. Such strategies may provide short term relief or distraction but typically exacerbate the underlying issues in the longer term.

Engaging in therapy is actually a sign of strength. High quality therapy provides the safe, non-judgmental, confidential space to explore life's challenges...and it has the power to transform lives.

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

Do you know how to support someone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts or behaviours? Watch this 40-second video to learn the basic steps from Mental Health First Aid England.

In 2023, 7055 deaths in the UK were officially registered as su***de, equating to an average of 19 deaths by su***de per day.

World Su***de Prevention Day is a global movement focusing on raising awareness of su***de, reducing stigma and encouraging strategies and actions to prevent su***de.

EVERY SU***DE IS A PREVENTABLE TRAGEDY. Workplaces can help by embedding su***de awareness, prevention and support into their mental health and wellbeing strategies. And, as individuals, we can take responsibility for educating ourselves to spot the signs of suicidal behaviours and learning how to respond.

Mental Health First Aid training is a comprehensive course that teaches you how to spot mental ill health and effectively support and signpost those that need it. Learn more:
