Pointe Shoes.

Pointe shoes are the tools of a ballet dancer, there are so many styles and manufacturers but should they be sold on line or by people who have no anatomical knowledge.
Last year a student of mine went to purchase pointe shoes at a dancewear store. After having lessons with myself where we talk about anatomy the student decided to ask the fitter some basic anatomy questions.
How many bones are in the foot?
How many muscles are under the foot?
What age should you start and why?

The fitter couldn't answer any of the questions, my student decided not to purchase pointe shoes.

This has lead me to starting the pointe clinic, all these answers and more can be answered when dancers come for a fitting or to have their shoes checked.
Feet change over time, so pointe shoes should change over time regular checking of shoes can prevent injuries. A shoe that fitted beautifully at the age of 13 may no longer be the right shoe at 15.
I look at the foot structure, muscle tone in the lower limb, age, menstruation, posture, maturity.
Time is spent really spent getting to know each dancer as an individual.
