Parents Voices in Wales has today submitted our evidence to the ALN Reform Review calling for improved Universal Learning Provision to capture the missing middle learners who are most at risk of mental health challenges, emotional based school avoidance, isolation and exclusions.

We wish to see a more targeted approach for whole school Neurodiversity and Inclusion training to support the Neurodivergence Improvement Programme in Wales and reduce demand on ALNCOs, support the early help model of the NEST Framework with neuroaffirming therapies within the Whole School Approach and we call for the creation of an Advisory Group of Parents/Carers to Welsh Government Education to support the good work of Lynne Neagle MS and her team in sharing best practice in Wales through the ALN Effective Practice sessions.

We acknowledge Lynne Neagle's commitment to families and believe that together we can make the ALN Reform succcessful for all children but we have to utilise the voices of lived experience on 'what works well' and support schools in meeting their ambitions in Wales for learners. A shift away from a medical model focusing just on ALN learners and embracing a shared language on neurodiversity/neurodivergence will support a whole system cultural shift for Wales that puts education in the centre and we prevent poor outcomes, together.
