One of the often overlooked aspects of mindfulness and mindful compassion is the importance of self-care and doing things for ourselves, especially those things that bring us joy, relaxation or a sense of wellbeing.
That is why we love this quote! It is a modern take on the zen saying "you should sit in meditation for 20 minutes every day, unless you are too busy, then you should sit for an hour".
It is all about prioritising those things in our life that are nourishing, supportive or relaxing. When we are busy, those are the things we tend to let go of, we can see them as luxuries.
However, those moments of relaxation, those activities that give us please or a sense of achievement are central to our mental wellbeing. Without them we will have a lower mood, be less focused and will feel burnt out.
Make time for your favourite activities. Meditate, listen to music, go for a walk, do some exercise, read a book, eat an indulgent snack. Do something for yourself everyday.
This is not self-indulgence, it is self-care. Do these activities, be mindful of how they make you feel!
