What you see here isn’t just a Creative art workshop📌

It’s what happens when children are given the space to feel safe, seen, and supported.

Through creativity, they begin to express what they may not yet have the words for.
Confidence grows. Emotions settle. Connection begins.

This is especially important for children with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs, where support has to go beyond surface-level activities.

At Rising Ohana’s CIC, we focus on delivering trauma-informed support to vulnerable young people and families, including those with neurodivergent needs, mental health challenges, and social care involvement.

Highlights from March 28th workshop.

Not just drawings
these are voices📌

At the Rising Ohana's Art Workshop, every piece tells a story of joy, imagination, and self-expression.
For many of these children, art becomes the language that words simply can't reach.
This is why creative spaces for kids matter. A safe place to explore, express, and simply be; at Rising Ohana's Art Workshop 💛

This is only the beginning.
Comment the word "Art" if you believe every child deserves a space like this.

Week 1🎨🎨

Today we kicked off Week 1 of our Creative Arts Workshop series, “Our Story, Our Family.”
Here’s a little snippet of what it looked like today.

Across six weeks, families will use creativity to reflect, express and celebrate their stories in a safe, inclusive and trauma-informed space.

Week 1: Drawing our family stories through images
Week 2: Adding colour and mixed materials
Week 3: Cutting, shaping and creative techniques to build our pieces
Week 4: Painting with emotions using colour charts
Week 5: Using modelling clay to bring our stories to life
Week 6: Displaying our stories together and celebrating our journey

This is a free creative arts workshop running every Saturday from 7 March to 11 April.

If you missed today, don’t worry — you can still join us next week or any other week that works for you.
We would love to welcome you.

Many times, the systems we rely on are broken.
We’ve seen it again and again — failing the very people they’re meant to protect.

Over the years, I’ve worked alongside so many women and young people who have experienced domestic abuse, sexual abuse, and deep, complex trauma. And what continues to dishearten me is this:
behind that trauma, they’re often labelled “challenging,” “difficult,” or “non-compliant.”

Rarely do we pause to ask why.

A lack of trust in professionals doesn’t come from nowhere.
Trauma doesn’t disappear just because time has passed.
Neurodiversity, lived experience, survival responses — these all shape how someone parents, communicates, copes, and engages with services.

Parenting looks different for everyone. Healing looks different too.

Yet far too often, young men and women are written off — told, directly or indirectly, that they won’t be good parents, that their children will “go the same way,” that their past defines their future.

That stigma causes harm.
And it needs to change.

My own journey, alongside the stories of those I’ve worked with, is exactly why I do what I do today. It’s why I believe so deeply that we must raise awareness, challenge labels, and create trauma-informed systems that see the person — not just the behaviour.
