Most people will say they want to change their current circumstances, in relationships or in business or just generally and yet, despite the fact that they are clearly suffering and saying they are ready to change - they still will not do what it takes.
People won't change - until the pain of staying stuck where they are outweighs the pain of doing the work that change requires.
They might fear change.
They might even fear success.
They definitely fear the unknown.
They would rather cling on to certainty of the life they know rather than face uncertainty. There is comfort in the familiar, even if that familiarity is dismal.
You see, our brains are wired for survival. It is a basic instinct. And sometimes we see uncertainty as dangerous. It is just a survival mechanism.
Sometimes though, this can stop us moving forward, it can prevent us achieving our potential. It can stop us taking a chance on something better.
Remember the brain has not evolved much from the days when our ancestors faced life threatening dangers on a daily basis.
Modern life no longer typically holds the same threats. There isn't a lion around the next corner - usually. But our brain still sounds the alarm causing fear and resistance to change and growth.
This is not your fault.
But creating change is your responsibility.
Changing takes consistent effort.
But this is where we grow.
