Happy new year to all of you out in motorcycle land, looking forward to 2024 and its all change. In 1972 I went for an interview at Motorcycle Mart Walsall, just walked in off the street, no appointment and I had picked the shop out of a motorcycle sales ad in a newspaper, had a sort of interview With Horace Harvey and started the following Monday. After 11 years I had a 2 year employment at Walsall Bike Centre, a great learning curve with courses in London on all things Kawasaki, before returning to Motorcycle Mart for a few years, again being sent to London on a Honda course. We were a good team in the service dept, but, as always, things change and I decided to strike out on my own. The last 23 years gave me a great insight into dealing with people and their motorcycle problems and avoiding pitfalls. After considering the options, ie, open a shop, start a service workshop etc, I decided to try a mobile service. To give up a regular wage and a relatively safe job was a massive step to me, like stepping off the top of a block of flats and wondering when I would stop falling. The mobile business was a temporary step that I stayed with for 28 years, challenging, enjoyable, exciting and almost every day brought a new lesson, friend or interesting meeting. Now it's 51 years since the beginning of my career in this most enjoyable profession but the last 28 as the Bike Doc were just great. I've now decided to change the road that I'm on and the Bike Doc Walsall is now finishing. To everyone that has used my services over the years, I'd just like to say a great big thank you, thank you for allowing me to do the work for you that meant I could do something every day of my working life that I found enjoyable and very rewarding, how many people can say that about their work life. However, I still have my heli coiling and ultrasonic cleaning equipment for occasional use. It's been a pleasure, thanks again, Doc ( I'll always be Doc)
