I’ve never been one to shy away from calling out BS!
If you see a sleep consultant state they are ‘evidence or science based’ but using overtiredness, age specific wake windows and set schedules and even made up regressions they need to be removed. If they were and did their homework they would know that there is zero evidence behind these wild statements.
I am more than aware my initial training was heavy on this and for this I am sorry. I don’t know but now I do and I intend to keep spreading this correct messages.
I’m not the finished article by any means but I promise you I’m working hard to bring you facts.

What a load of bobbins.
When I started Lightzzz Out I think maybe 10% of my Mums were breastfeeding, however now I would say it’s more like 70%.
It’s never about stopping these feeds as such but more about where and when we are offering them.
If the b**b is being used to get them to sleep then I’m afraid you’re going to have to offer this upon most wakes during the night.
You haven’t made a rod for your own back, and you can certainly get a decent nights sleep, it just takes playing around with timings, teaching some sleep skills and being consistent.
Want to know more then book a call with me and let me go through what I do.
The b**b doesn’t not mean you need to be a human dummy.

Yes your child will protest and there will be tears during sleep training. However, this is not my main goal and the tears are often short lived.
My methods are not about locking them in a room to cry, they are responsive.
It is their job to work out sleep and we are there to offer support but it’s not down to you.
We should always attend to our child’s needs such as food, comfort and warmth. However, their wants are different. For example, that unnecessary night feed, dummy run or getting into your bed, are not basic needs they’re wants.
I love a protest (hence the photo) and expressing my annoyance over things I don’t like. There’s no wonder I had a very strong willed baby who had all his wants and needs all met but at the detriment of my sleep!

The ‘shame’ we believe we will get for getting help for something that is causing us distress etc very much lies with us.
Many parent I work with explain they didn’t reach out sooner due to the judgement they might get from others.
This often comes about as many simply brand sleep training as just cry it out, which is not what I do. Now let me be clear there are tears and that’s the reality of making a change but it’s about being responsive.
We also then feel ‘shame’ about having a baby that doesn’t sleep. Does that make me a crap parent? This is how I felt and the answer to this is hell no!
So, both views of feeling shame aren’t right so why do we beat ourselves up constantly?
If you were unwell you would go to the doctor, no shame in that. So why when sleep is awful so we simply try and crack on?
No shame or judgement here folks, as I’ve been there and totally understand.
Be kind to yourselves x

Ok I know science can be dull as dishwater but this stuff is gritty! 2 things to take from this are that deep stages of sleep happen in the first 3.5 to 4 hours of the night so if we are seeing lots of wakes here, this needs working on. It’s more than likely a schedule issue or a sleep onset association problem.
Also, I wanted to share this to explain how we ALL have natural wakes during the night. The key part is what we do when they occur. If these wakes are turning into full episodes this is where the sleep training comes in.
I am no scientist or professor but this stuff makes sense.
Any questions let me know.

This is one of the most common questions I get asked, and also one of the hardest to navigate. What I will say is that before you make a change, please ensure that you have given these signs a week. I would always prefer to protect naps and drop them, so we need to be sure before making the switch.
I have added a guide of the common ages for nap dropping but I have had many babies that fall out of these ages, all normal too!
It is VERY common for people to be told their baby is going through a 'regression' around these ages but this is not biologically accurate. It is more often than not that the babies sleep needs are in fact changing and we need to adapt their schedule.

Yes I’m a baby sleep consultant, yes I get frustrated by the utter crap thrown out on social media but my number 1 role in life is being Monty’s Mummy and he’s my proudest achievement to date!
It’s bloody hard being a parent but wow, just wow!
Sending you all lots of love if today has been a battle.
We’re all just trying our best and that’s all we can do x

I always recommend if you're interested in getting some help that you book an initial 15 minute free discovery call with me. This gives you the opportunity to ask me any questions about how I work and also find out if I am the right fit for you and your family.
I still stand by the fact that sleep training our son was the best thing I ever did. Even better is that I now get to share this with you all.
Speak soon,
Alex
