🦶 Podiatrist vs Chiropodist — What’s the Difference?

Short answer: there isn’t one. In the UK, both titles mean the same thing — fully qualified foot specialists trained to assess, diagnose and treat conditions affecting the feet and lower limbs.

“Chiropodist” is the older term, while “podiatrist” is the modern, internationally recognised title. Both are protected titles, which means only practitioners registered with the HCPC can use them.

Whether someone calls themselves a podiatrist or chiropodist, the training, skills and scope of practice are exactly the same. What matters most is safe, evidence‑based care from a registered professional.
