‘Don’t wait for the rash’: Mum urges parents to trust their instincts after son’s life‑threatening meningitis case

When 16‑year‑old Jack became suddenly very unwell at home, his mum Anneka knew something was not right. The rash only appeared later – and it was tiny.

Jack was taken to hospital and teams acted quickly to diagnose and treat meningitis. He is now back at school and preparing for his GCSEs.

Meningitis can make you seriously ill very quickly. Do not wait for a rash. Get medical help immediately if you are worried about your child or loved one.

Possible symptoms can include:

➡️ a high temperature
➡️ severe tiredness
➡️ confusion
➡️ a bad headache
➡️ a rash that does not fade when you press it (it may appear later and can be hard to see)

Find out more about meningitis and its symptoms by visiting the NHS website and searching 'meningitis'.

We’re regional champions at the first NHS Excellence Awards 🏆

Huge congratulations to our Organisation Development Team, whose Your Future Your Way programme has been recognised in the Valuing Our People category for supporting colleagues from ethnic minority backgrounds into leadership.

The programme helps people build confidence, skills and qualifications, with senior leaders actively supporting career progression. So far, more than 50 colleagues have gained leadership qualifications, and representation at senior level has grown.

We’re proud of this team and their commitment to inclusive leadership that makes a real difference for our people, patients and communities. 💙

🌟 Health Hero Award Winner 🌟

Huge congratulations to nurse Colleen Spencer, who has been named Health Hero at the Warrington Guardian Inspiration Awards.

With over 20 years in the NHS, Colleen also cares for her husband and volunteers at a local church club supporting older people with friendship and hot meals.

Her kindness, dedication and commitment to others truly stood out 💙

We also congratulate the Discharge Facilitator Team and midwife Jonathan Thompson‑Cliffe, who were highly commended on the night.

Thank you for everything you do.
