Those early moments after birth aren’t just about weighing, measuring and getting the room tidied up. They’re a powerful biological window for you and your baby.
A recent study found that when full-term babies had more than 45 minutes of uninterrupted skin-to-skin contact immediately after birth, families tended to:
✨ Breastfeed for longer overall
✨ Exclusively breastfeed for longer
✨ Have much longer first feeds
This isn’t about pressure or doing birth “perfectly”. Not every birth allows for immediate or uninterrupted skin-to-skin, and your feeding journey is never defined by one moment.
But when it is possible, protecting that first cuddle can gently support bonding, milk production, baby’s instincts and confidence with feeding.
If you’re pregnant, it’s okay to add uninterrupted skin-to-skin to your birth preferences and talk to your birth team about what matters to you.
And if your start looked different? You haven’t missed your chance. Connection and feeding support can grow at any point 💛
