🇬🇧❤️ VE Day at Donwell has been, without question, one of the most emotional and memorable days we have ever shared together. ❤️🇬🇧
It was a day filled with reflection, gratitude, and deep pride as we came together to honour our veterans and celebrate our country. ✨🎖️ Moments like these remind us that every day truly is a gift. As Winston Churchill so powerfully said, “We may allow ourselves a brief period of rejoicing; but let us not forget for a moment the toils and efforts that lie ahead.”
🙏 We extend our heartfelt thanks to Reverend Beth for leading such a moving and meaningful service, and to Gillian Anderson for organising the wonderful Donwell brass band. 🎺 The bugler’s Julie tribute was deeply touching, and Iain’s exposition transported us back in time, allowing us to reflect on the sacrifices made. 🕊️ A special thank you also to our singer Eric, who brought joy, laughter, and warmth to the celebrations. 🎶
Thank you to the lovely ladies that always bring sweets and sweetened our day.
Thank you Sunderland college and students for your support and dedication ❤️🫶🏻
🗺️📸 We would also like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Washington History Society for supporting us with their wonderful exposition of maps and photographs. Thank you for taking us back in time and helping us reflect so vividly on the stories, sacrifices, and history that shaped our nation.
💙 We are incredibly grateful to Veterans for Veterans in Care for their unwavering support and the remarkable work they continue to do. To all our volunteers ,your dedication made this day possible, and we thank you sincerely. 👏
Above all, we want to express our deepest gratitude to our veterans. 🎖️ Your courage, service, and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Today, and every day, we honour you. 🌺

Everyone say hello👋 to Lindsey, one of our fabulous Night Care assistants here at Donwell ❤️
Lindsey has been part of the team for 2 years and brings so much kindness, care, and dedication to our residents every single day.

Lindsey says:
“I’ve always wanted to do this job before I retire, and I came here because my mam was a resident. It’s such a rewarding job and working here is like having a second family. I honestly love working here.”🫶🏽

Lindsey’s colleagues say:
“Lindsey is such a kind and caring person. She cares so much for the residents and is incredibly hard-working and dedicated to her role.”
