Bach Flowers with Helen

Bach Flowers with Helen I’m Helen Gordon, a Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner with a passion for helping people to use these wonderful essences to inspire emotional balance.

I didn’t discover Mechthild Scheffer until some years after I’d qualified as a Bach foundation registered practitioner. I dip into her Bach Flower Therapy and Theory and Practice frequently when I’m considering writing blogs or to deepen and extend my research. Originally she wrote to introduce Dr Bach’s work into German-speaking countries, Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
She produced an Encyclopedia of the Bach flower therapies.
She shows that emotional, psychological and physical well -being are linked inextricably. Her books guide the novice and the practitioner in choosing remedies which heal symptoms and restore balance to life.
Mechthild Scheffer has had more than 30 years of practising research and has written 15 books and other specialist publications.

In 2007 with the cooperation of Rechnitz/Southern Burgenland community she created the “Bach flower Power Park.”

All the Bach flower plants and their specific remedial properties can be found here. A natural environment which can help visitors to develop positivity.

“A meditative tour through the park attracts you to the plants and power formulas that you currently need to recharge your emotional batteries and you will recognise your own character strengths”
I wonder what Dr Bach would think about this?

Elm. Ulmus procera.
English Elm flowers between February and April in Woodlands and hedgerows. A positive Elm person is capable and hard-working and successful but there are times when they have moments of weakness and they feel they can’t go on.The Elm Remedy will help them in these moments of weakness and will give them a clear vision again as to what they are meant to do and what they can do. They become more aware of their capabilities and strengths but understand that they must stop and rest and give themselves time to recuperate.
In 1935 Dr Bach had doubted that he could fulfil the task of completing his research on his healing herbs. When he saw the Elm flower he was inspired and found the strength and conviction to continue and follow the work through.
Elm has great strength like the oak but with Elm there is great sensitivity as you can see when you look at the finesse of its twigs in the delicate branches. It is the sensitivity that makes it vulnerable.

Dr Edward Bach discovered one remedy that isn’t made from a plant. It’s Rock Water. He made it from a natural spring when he lived in Wales in 1933. The water is collected and left in bright sunlight for three hours to potentise it. Natural springs are found in areas that are “untouched by civilisation”. These areas have no fertilisers or pesticides or acid rain, the three main pollutants, and no medications. Natural springs are found distant from human habitation. In the U.K. today we have Glastonbury well, Tunbridge Wells and springs in Buxton and Harrogate. There are springs known for power to heal the sick.
A person requiring Rock Water has a very rigid lifestyle they’re not open minded and they can’t let go of theories and principles that they want to carry out in their life. They may have strict diets, strict ideas on religion, politics, work ethics. They are not influenced by others as they believe they are right. They have great ideals but they have no inner peace. They cling to one aspect of spirituality, of a meditation technique, and they suppress worldly desires. They believe in a rigid way of life yet this tends to inhibit their development. They reproach themselves if they’re not perfect at what they want to do they are under a lot of physical and mental stress.

They believe that worldly desires inhibit spiritual development and they want to be a saint while still on this earth. They suppress physical and emotional needs; they deny themselves a normal life.

They don’t interfere in the lives of others and they don’t try and change them but they feel that they are being an example of the way to live.

So overall they have a self-imposed discipline and they reproach themselves if they can’t maintain this. A negative Rock Water person needs to take Rock Water then they will find that they will do their physical exercise and their meditation but not with rigid rules. Rock Water’s positive aspect will enable them to bring their ideals to other people maybe, and they will have joy and peace in life but in a natural way. They will be open to new insights and experiences and let things grow.
Mechthild Scheffer “Bach Flower Therapy” Positive statements: ‘I am open to new insights and experiences.’
‘ I let things grow.’
‘I let all aspects of my life have their due.’
They will change their minds and give up some of their theories if they are convinced of something greater. They begin to understand that inner harmony is more powerful than enforced behaviours and they ‘flow’ more in life.

The Holly remedy is for people who can be bad tempered, extremely emotional and full of anger, hatred, rage and often suspicion too. They maybe violent and irritable and always seem to be angry. They are short tempered and domineering and unloveable and like to be in charge and if not they get stroppy.
They find it difficult to love and open their hearts. Their natural state is full of envy and hatred and generally feel anger towards others.
These people need doctor Bach’s Holly remedy.
They will be willing to share even their own personal problems. They develop a sense of inner harmony and can take pleasure in other people and other peoples’ success. Dr Bach wrote; “Holly protects us from everything that is not universal love. Holly opens the heart and unites us with divine love.“

Do you worry obsessively about people that you care for, family members, friends et cetera? If so Red Chestnut will relieve that anxiety. Mechthild Scheffer relates Red Chestnut to the soul potentials of solicitude and love of one’s neighbour. It’s stated that it’s a powerful energy link between two individuals. If you are over concerned about others especially family and close friends and fear the worst for them even if it’s temporary Red Chestnut is needed. It will help you to care for other people, have compassion but without anxiety. In the positive state Red Chestnut people have thoughts of health and courage to those who need them and remain calm in emergencies, they are happy to help when asked but they do not force themselves on others.
A typical negative Red Chestnut type example would be an overbearing parent who cannot relax until a grown- up son or daughter has called to say that they’ve arrived home at night or that they have reached their holiday destination!
Often known as unable ‘to let go of the apron strings’ or’to sever the cord’.
This overbearing concern can have a harmful effect on the child or indeed another person such as a friend. Relationships can be strained.
Take Red Chestnut and positive thoughts of courage and well- being will radiate during difficulties a cool head will help cope in emergencies.
If you have been a negative Red Chestnut person for many years, remember you may need to take Red Chestnut Remedy for some time. Often the longer we have been a negative type the remedy will need to be taken regularly four times a day or more often.
Please contact me for more information on how to take Bach remedies if you need help.

Dr Bach’s Wild Oat remedy is recommended for those who do not know what they want and feel unsure about their purpose in life.

They may have or have had several careers and been successful but never feel that this is for them and don’t know where to turn.

They may have plans and lots of ideas but still feel desperate because of this uncertain feeling of what to do next. While these people may have many talents and abilities, they are never fully satisfied. This is unsatisfactory for them and they feel unfulfilled. One example could be a mid-life crisis or other symptoms are eating disorders.
Taking Wild Oat can help them make important decisions such as choosing a career. Wild Oat remedy can give the person a clear picture of what to do in life and the ability to decide on which path to take. They will find ways to continue with one career or at least one at a time and they no longer give up when they are bored. So the uncertainty is greatly helped by Wild Oat.
Dr Bach saw Wild Oat as a direction finder. .This hairy grass is one of many varieties of grasses found in hedge banks. It’s a common plant, in other words it’s scattered generally. Its tall stem has a hanging flower and there is no obvious pattern in its growth and no clear direction as to how the flowers hang as found in other grasses.
Flowering time is July and August which is later than most other flowering grasses.
Bach Flower Remedies are taken four times a day. Two drops of the remedy in water is good but in any favourite drink too. First thing in the morning and before bed is a good routine to follow.

If you’d like more advice on this and any other Bach remedies please DM me.

Here are some short quotes from the book ”The original writings of Edward Bach” by Judy Howard and John Ramsey.
In this book Nora Week’s writes about Edward Bach.

Edward Bach knew how people were feeling, how they try to hide their feelings and for those who lived with him at the time it made life difficult for them and for him. There are certain people and certain diseases from whom he had to run away. For years he was studying human types of states of mind he was going to restaurants, theatres, cinemas, shops and amongst crowds. Often he would have to leave hurriedly as someone there, as he said, was too dominant or too full of hatred or resentment and negative radiations hit him like a canon ball. On the other hand he had a great sense of humour and enjoyed the simple things of life which are the true things of life. Picking the first wood mushrooms of the year made him as excited as a boy. Cooking a meal making a pair of trousers finishing the chair or table he’d made, filled him with joy.
“Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings“the doctor listened with full attention to everything anyone told him. “You never know who they are and what truth they have come to tell you.“
Many people would say “I’ve only to see him in the distance and I’m better.“ He was privileged to be a channel on healing, and his first consideration was to find the healing flowers. These, he said, could be used by others, whereas he could not pass on the gift of healing, that was in higher hands. At times he could tell with one look at the suffering, the negative difficulty, the hidden fear, resentment, jealousy or whatever they might be suffering from and name the remedy for their healing. He could see the true nature of each individual and would tell them what great people they were and that “God’s
children are never afraid.”
His voice had a quality that gave confidence, made one feel one was better, nicer, that one was really of consequence and a far lovelier person that one had believed..............................................................................................

They are able, like beautiful music or any glorious uplifting thing which gives you inspiration, to raise our very nature and bring us nearer to our souls by that very act to bring us peace and relieve the suffering. They cure, not by attacking the disease, but by flooding our bodies with the beautiful vibrations of our Higher Nature,in the presence of which disease melts away as snow in the sunshine. There is no true healing unless there is a change in outlook, peace of mind, and inner happiness.
