I’ve just shared a new video about mindful gardening and the quiet shift we’ve made towards working with nature instead of constantly trying to control it.

Over time, we’ve started welcoming many of the so-called “weeds” into the garden; yarrow, poppies, nettles, foxgloves, borage, comfrey and more. Many are deeply important for pollinators, birds and biodiversity, and many also have long histories in herbal medicine and folklore.

The garden is louder with bees now. Fuller of butterflies and birdsong. More alive.

I also talk about No Mow May, wildlife gardening, medicinal plants, and why leaving space for wildness matters so much.

Watch here:

What if the plants we call weeds are actually trying to heal the land?In this video, I share our gentle shift towards a more mindful, wildlife-friendly way o...

Why do our spines and joints often feel stiffer as we age?

Partly, it’s because the tissues around them aren’t being asked to move in varied, meaningful ways. The fascia, ligaments, and joint capsules can become less hydrated and less adaptable over time, especially with long periods of sitting, repetitive movement, or simply doing less.

Yin yoga approaches this differently.

Rather than using dynamic movement or muscular effort, yin applies slow, sustained loading to the deeper connective tissues. We stay in shapes for longer, giving the body time to respond, not forcefully, but gradually.

This kind of gentle stress encourages:
– improved hydration of tissues
– maintenance of joint range of motion
– greater elasticity in connective tissue
– and a more balanced relationship between strength and softness

It’s not about pushing into flexibility. It’s about supporting the health and adaptability of the tissues that allow us to move with ease.

Yin is one of the only practices that intentionally works in this slower, more passive way, using the weight of your body, which is why it can feel so different and so needed.

Over time, it becomes less about 'stretching' and more about keeping the body feeling spacious, responsive, and supported from within.

If this sounds like something you'd like to try, I teach a gebtle yin yoga class every Tuesday from 6-7.15pm in Isham. Book online at sjholisticyoga.co.uk.

For years, milk kefir has been one of those quiet little things I’ve returned to again and again. But over the past month, I’ve started making my own at home and honestly, it has felt like the final little piece in my peri-menopause puzzle.

The changes I’ve noticed have been surprisingly significant:

• calmer digestion
• feeling fuller for longer
• better sleep
• less anxiety and a much more regulated nervous system

There’s growing research around the gut-brain connection, hormones, inflammation, and the microbiome, and it’s such a fascinating area to explore, especially during peri-menopause.

Homemade kefir is completely different from the shop bought versions. Alive, evolving, deeply simple to make, and strangely grounding as a daily ritual.

I’ve written a fuller blog post about homemade kefir, fermentation, gut health, and why I think these tiny daily rituals matter so much. And if you come to class, and you'd like to receive some grains - let me know!

Good morning! Here are all the ways you can practice with me next week.

Just a little note that Monday and Tuesday classes will be held in Little Harrowden next week, as Isham Village Hall wasn’t available. Rather than cancel classes, and because I’m away over May half term, I wanted to make sure we could still gather and practice together.

Thank you, as always, for your flexibility and support. I really appreciate it.

Book online at sjholisticyoga.co.uk - have a wonderful Sunday

For me, yoga has never just been something that happens on the mat for an hour a week.

Yoga philosophy is woven into every part of my life. Into how I raise my children. How I speak to people. How I drive my car. How I respond to stress. How I rest. How I move through the world.

And I am so passionate about sharing the wisdom with my students. So when you come to one of my classes, you are not just coming to stretch or exercise for an hour. You are stepping into a practice that has the potential to quietly change your whole relationship with yourself and your life.

This is why I spend so much time planning my classes. The philosophy, the themes, the breathwork, the sequencing, the nervous system support, the energy in the room. None of it is random.

My students consistently tell me they feel stronger, calmer, less anxious and more able to cope with life. They sleep better. Their breathing improves. Longstanding aches and pains begin to ease. They feel more grounded in themselves.

Because yoga was never meant to be just a workout. It is a way of being, and over time, if you let it, it begins to leave the mat with you.

If you'd like to try a class, book online at sjholisticyoga.co.uk. I teach in Isham, Little Harrowden, Kettering and Pytchley (from June).

And if you’re curious about yoga philosophy, my blog is a growing free resource filled with reflections, teachings, and ways to bring yoga into everyday life.

Just a little reminder that there is a temporary venue change for the following classes next week:

• Monday evening Hatha - 11th May only
• Tuesday evening yoga (Yin and Hatha) - 12th May and 19th May

Timings remain exactly the same.

Unfortunately, Isham Village Hall isn’t available on these dates, so we’ll instead be practising at Little Harrowden Village Hall, which is every bit as lovely. It’s only around a 5-minute drive from Isham, and I’ll pop directions in the comments for anybody who needs them.

I’m really sorry for the inconvenience, especially after we’ve only just moved venues. Thank you all so much for your patience and flexibility while everything settles into place. I really appreciate it.

If the temporary change means you need to amend or cancel your booking, just send me a message.

Otherwise, I’ll look forward to seeing you there for practice.

You can book as usual via sjholisticyoga.co.uk

Om Shanti
