This lunchtime our Funeral Director Scott Dinsmore popped out and visited the wonderful teams at both Park House and Glenvale Park care homes here in Wellingborough.

Given that Mothering Sunday is just a few days away Scott was making a delivery of Daffodils, a little something to hopefully brighten up the week by adding a dash of colour and a touch of joy for both the residents and staff.

Scott also donated a selection of jams to Glenvale Park in preparation for their Easter hampers.

Petal Cascade Florist kindly provided the flowers so thank you to Pat and Alan for those, a pleasure working with you as always 🙌🏻

Yesterday we were joined by the wonderful team from Claytons Carriage Masters as together we helped a truly lovely local family say goodbye to a hugely popular, deeply respected and much loved man.

Angela Darlow was our celebrant and,, as she always does compiled and then lead a beautiful service that captured the hearts and minds of those in attendance.

'Buddy' was carried into chapel by friends and family, one final heartfelt act of love and respect symbolic of how much he was valued by those who knew him.

Scott was our Funeral Director and he was joined by Connor, Ash, Alan and Craig. The chaps were diligent in their duties and ensured that all aspects of the arrangements that Tamsyn our Funeral Service Specialist made were followed to the letter.

A beautiful service and one where the weather (for once) was kind to us too.

On Wednesday 25th March our Funeral Director Scott will be running 20 miles in support of Kellys Heroes, 20 miles being the distance covering all four of the Dignity Funerals funeral homes on this side of the county.

Starting at John Drage Funeral Directors Scott will then make his way round to us here on Havelock Street before departing Wellingborough (on foot) for H J Phillips & Son Funeral Directors in Kettering. Once he has refuelled on Jelly Babies & Lucozade he will then make his way out of Kettering and will head out to Phillips Funeral Service in Corby, his final stop.

Kelly's Heroes is a wonderful charity that is based in Wellingborough, the charity was set up in memory of Kelly Francesca Hewitt who sadly took her own life in December 2018 aged just 24.

The charity aims to break down the stigma surrounding mental health whilst also taking down the barriers that prevent people from talking about their struggles. Through the work they do, the conversations they have and the support they give Kelly's Heroes help prevent members of the very communities we live and work in from taking their own lives.

If you are able to help by sponsoring Scott that would be great, any and all donations will go to helping Kelly's Heroes continue the wonderful work they do.

Scott, alongside Jordan, Funeral Director for Ann Bonham & Son Funeral Directors run this last year and raised just shy of £2000 for the charity.

"To Love & Be Loved Is To Feel The Sun From Both Sides"

Is there any story greater than that of falling in love?!

Today, couples up and down the country will be exchanging gifts, opening cards, staring lovingly into eachothers eyes, walking hand in hand, sharing special moments, creating wonderful memories and writing the next pages of their own love stories.

But for many, today is a reminder of the person they have lost, their own special someone, their 'person', their soul mate, that individual who made them feel all warm and fuzzy inside and who has sadly passed away.

For all of you who have had your own love story cut short, you are in our thoughts, today and always.

Love does not end when someone is gone - it simply changes form. 'Loved You Then. Love You Still'

The Funeral Service Specialist.

The Funeral Service Specialist is exactly as advertised, a 'specialist' within all aspects of the funeral arrangement process, an individual who has a breadth of knowledge, expansive skill set and wealth of experience.

Here at Bruce Carter & Son our Funeral Service Specialist is Tamsyn and whilst she may have only been part of our team for a couple of months she has actually spent the past six years working within the funeral profession..

Tamsyn will ordinarily be a families primary point of contact when making arrangements for their loved one and she leaves no stone unturned when acting on behalf of families.

As a Funeral Service Specialist Tamsyn is responsible for the below;

* Receiving First Calls. A first call being the first instance in which a family has phoned us, ordinarily so in the hours immediately following a loved ones passing.

* Discussing Next Steps. Tamsyn will advise families of what happens in the hours, days and weeks following the loss of a loved one. This will include providing advice with registering the death as well as an overview of the funeral arrangement process.

* Making Funeral Arrangements. During the arrangement process Tamsyn will meet with families either here in our funeral home or within the family home. She will help, advise, guide, listen to and support those she is meeting with to ensure the funeral arrangements are truly representative of their loved one.

* Liaising With Third Parties. The Funeral Service Specialist liaises with multiple third parties on behalf of a family, this can include but is not limited to; Churches and Crematoria, Hospitals & Doctors Surgeries, Registrars, Florists and Celebrants.

* Fleeting. A Funeral Service Specialist such as Tamsyn is required to give clear and accurate fleeting instructions to our diary manager. Failure to provide these in a timely fashion could result in vehicles and resources being allocated elsewhere.

* Orders Of Service. Working alongside families and celebrants the Funeral Service Specialist is responsible for ensuring the order of service meets the families needs and expectations. This includes checking the dates, spelling, wording and layout of any photo's..

* Receiving Of Floral Tributes. The Funeral Service Specialist will, having liaised with the florist then be responsible for receiving the flowers into the funeral home prior to the funeral. This involves checking the order is correct as well as making sure the quality meets ours and the families expectations.

* Accounts Management. Tamsyn alongside our Funeral Director Scott is responsible for the administration of funeral accounts. This involves the taking of deposit payments, invoicing and raising of payment requests to ensure celebrants etc are paid in a timely manner.

* Administration Of Cremated Remains. Following a funeral service a Funeral Service Specialist will ensure that any cremated remains are handled respectfully, in keeping with the families wishes and scattered, interred or returned in line with the timeframe agreed at the point of arrangement.

* Maintaining Branch Standards. This can range from hoovering and dusting to ensuring accurate, up to date price lists and displays are on show in our family facing areas.

* Care Of The Deceased. Alongside our Funeral Director Tamsyn will complete daily checks on each loved one that is resting in our care, this afford the team time with each individual and the opportunity to identify any significant changes in their condition,

The role of a Funeral Service Specialist is varied, demanding but very rewarding, the above list is only a small sample size for what is a much bigger and more detailed role.

Tamsyn works tirelessly to ensure our families and their loved ones are looked after and it is her hard work, dedication and enthusiasm that allow Scott our Funeral Director the opportunity to do the things he does so well.

You may have noticed that Scott, our Funeral Director bows his head a number of times whilst escorting loved ones on their final journey but have you ever wondered why?

Bowing, like many of the funeral traditions we still honour today likely stems from the Victorian era and whilst a relatively small and simple gesture it is one of deep meaning.

Scott will bow before leaving our funeral home, once he has paged (ceremonial walk), before commencing paging at the house or service location and then again upon arrival at the house or service location.

On each occasion this bow is performed as a mark of respect, a moment where we can, in some small way honour the individual we are escorting on what will be their final journey.

Bowing is also used within service venues such as churches, crematoria etc as a way for us to provide a professional service to families, one where we look disciplined, uniformed and in sync. For example, once we have placed a loved one on to the catafalque (ceremonial raised platform) at a crematorium the bearers will all bow, turn together and move off as one, this signifies that they have fulfilled their duty and have now been dismissed.
