Thank you so much for the wonderful donations so far.

We still need knitted or crochet breasts to help support the Health Visiting Team and volunteers in feeding support clinics across Kent. All colours and sizes are welcome 🙂

There are some great knitting patterns and instructions from which can be found at: www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/wp-content/pdfs/Knitted_Breasts.pdf

All colours and sizes are welcome. We will fill them to make sure the filling is fire safety compliant.

Please contact the Kent Infant Feeding Team if you can support us by emailing kentchft.infantfeedingteam@nhs.net.

With party season fast approaching, as a breastfeeding mum you may be wondering if you can drink alcohol.

If you do decide to have some alcohol over Christmas, these tips may help:

🟡 Anything you eat or drink while you're breastfeeding can find its way into your breast milk, and that includes alcohol but this will be in minute amounts so the odd drink isn't likely to harm your breastfed baby. The effects of alcohol on your baby are directly related to the amount you consume.

🟡 Plan ahead for any evenings where you choose to consume alcohol. You may wish to express breastmilk for your baby, and if you being to feel drunk, have another responsible adult look after your baby. It's a good idea to make sure you eat well before.

🟡 NHS guidelines recommend avoiding breastfeeding for 2-3 hours for every drink you have. Alcohol passes freely into breastmilk and has been found to peak about 30 to 60 minutes after consumption, 60 to 90 minutes when drunk with food. NHS guidance also states that alcohol consumption for all adults, including breastfeeding women, shouldn’t exceed 14 units spread over a week.

🟡 Sip your drink over a prolonged period of time rather than quickly. Be mindful that if you haven't had any alcohol for a long time, you may be affected by alcohol quicker than you would have been previously.

🟡 Ask family and friends to support you by not offering to pour or make you alcohol drinks.

🟡 Never share a bed, armchair or sofa with your baby after drinking alcohol, or if your partner has. Doing this has a strong association with sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).

It’s always so lovely to receive feedback and know you’ve helped to make a difference 🥰

"Our son was born 7 weeks prematurely and have spent the first month at the Neonatal unit. Our family are mostly aboard. So, it was absolutely wonderful to have Lee's postnatal support through this early phase after our son came home from hospital. Lee has a warm character who always turns up with the biggest smile. She offered her professional support on feeding, baby hygiene, bathing, weaning as well as helping out on many household chores. It built our confidence as first time parents having the reassurance from who's professional in this field. The practical and mental support from Lee bought us huge relief. We couldn't be more thankful for her help and would highly recommend Lee to all new parents. "
