**Casting**
Tea and Tenacity is casting for an experienced and versatile actor for an up and coming period of R&D on a new play provisionally entitled 'A Singular Deception' by Hilary Spiers and directed by Ali Belbin. It is inspired by the life and work of Dr James Barry, a pioneering military surgeon who was, upon his death, found to be, in fact, a woman.
We are seeking a black male actor, aged 30 to 60 with multi-rolling, workshop and improvisation experience to play 'Black John', the companion to Dr James Barry in this two-hander.
This role will require an actor with the ability to play various roles in the story, (utilising various accents) including some female, some upper class, Caribbean, South African and British; to bring a natural mischief and protectiveness to the role of John whilst also being willing to experiment to play other characters as necessary.
The workshop period is five days: the first three days on 31st July, 1st August and 2nd August and following a writing break, two consecutive days on culminating in a script-in-hand reading on 24th August. Payment will be £100 per day.
All rehearsals and the reading will take place in Birmingham and we are seeking a West Midlands based actor, in line with our usual commitment to employ local professionals.
