This woman definitely went through childbirth without fear!

In January of 2011, we welcomed our first born son Earth-side in the water at Family Beginnings Birthing Center (Miami Valley Hospital). I labored overnight at home and arrived at the hospital not long before he was born. Trying to recall from almost five years ago, we got to the room, got in the tu…

Fantastic article with a very refreshing view point on the mother's urge to push. It's a meaty read but well worth it.

Fantastic article with a very refreshing view point on the mother's urge to push.
It's a meaty read but well worth it.

Edited and update: October 2015 Here is a scenario I keep hearing over and over: A woman is labouring away and all is good. She begins to push with contractions, and her midwife encourages her to f...

And they are oh so kissable!

A breastfed baby will typically have plump little cheeks because of the muscles called buccal pads, or 'sucking pads'.

These muscles are well developed in breastfed babies because they are used to compress the breast tissue as they feed ...

What do you guys think of this? I'm fascinated to try it on my (soon to be born) 3rd!
I would imagine that it helps to have giant man hands like he does!!

I have no doubt this would work on me. I have no idea about babies.

New 'radical' NHS advice says home births and midwife units are the best option for most women. Well about time, says Beverley Turner, who's given birth twice in her own house. Here, she explains the benefits (and not just because you're near the fridge...)

This is for all the husbands out there! Advice given by a world-famous Dr in the 1940s.

"I want to give you some advice and you will be wise to remember it. When you marry it will not be to one woman but to two. The personality and behaviour of these two women will differ widely and it is unlikely that you will remain in love with both of them for many years. One woman is she who lives between her menstrual periods and the other is the woman who is subjected to all the emotional, physical and chemical changes which she undergoes just before, during and after her periods.
It can be observed, however, that during pregnancy, the menstrual woman no longer being present, a third individual appears within the home, whose activities, thoughts and behaviour need careful understanding and considerate tolerance and unselfishness on the part of the husband.
The importance of the husband's attitude towards, and understanding of, childbirth cannot be exaggerated. His words and actions, and even the atmosphere in the house that he may create in silence, have a profound effect upon his wife. Her health and happiness during pregnancy, and certainly her approach to labour, will be influenced for better or for worse by harmony or discord that she feels in her husband's mind."

Did you know:
Breast milk is so valuable and important to newborns that the Medical Professionals in the newborn intensive care units almost regard it as a medicine!

When my son was born at 30 weeks the Drs and nurses made me feel like a complete hero for bringing him my expressed breast milk - I was told on several occasions that my milk and my physical contact was just as important as the medical equipment he was surrounded by.

You know what I love most about this - how calm and cool the dad is!! Like what is happening is completely natural (duh!) and there is nothing to freak out about.
Although once the baby is out all I can think is "put it in your top woman"!!

This… is absolutely incredible. It's like The Fast And The Furious meets She's Having a Baby. Watch this pregnant mother go from 0-to-Newborn in less than two minutes (seen at 2:14). Don't worry. It's not gross, it doesn't show anything indecent, and aside from some much-understood...
