Its that time of year! The Little Black Dress Diet. Crush it for Christmas! “Lose a stone in a month”. “Give up carbs and crush your craving” etc etc
I used to get angry at people that peddle this bu****it but I've now come to realise that I'm old and wise enough to know better, so its my fault if I buy into this bo****ks.
Fast weight loss IS NOT SUSTAINABLE OR HEALTHY. I'll give you the top three reasons.
1. The weight loss is probably muscle mass (which is really really bad) and water. Lower muscle mass means a lower metabolism, i.e your body uses less calories at rest.
2. Giving up carbs, fats, alcohol or anything you enjoy is not sustainable. You can still lose weight by enjoying your favourite foods and you’ll learn to enjoy them in moderation.
3. Severe calorie restriction disrupts your metabolism and hormones, particularly those that regulate hunger and satiety, like leptin and ghrelin. Prolonged periods of calorie restriction signal to the body that it's in "starvation mode," causing it to slow down metabolism and increase cravings for high-calorie foods.
So just like those Get Rich Quick schemes Get Thin Quick schemes are a waste of time and money.
One thing you can do quickly though is improve your activity levels, you can do that RIGHT NOW. That is one quick thing that works!!
