This weeks classes are going to feature a few of these! Planks!!
Why?? Amazing for your core, & a compound movement which works multiple muscle groups, lower back, hips, glutes. So a total full body exercise! Planks also help with posture by strengthening lots of the muscles which support your spine.
Planks require lots of core engagement to maintain that lovely long straight line of your spine when you lift - so works to help with balance & co ordination as well!
I know they are challenging! a static pose so often we just hold the plank whilst using the breath as the reps, so this can mean you can feel like you’re just counting down til you can come back to your mat! But! There are lots of options to tailor the plank to what suits you and your body. Have a scroll through to see some options and ways to make the plank a little more flowing and moving which I find some people enjoy more than just holding a plank for a set amount of time!
🌿 4 point kneeling hover - a good starting option, hands under shoulders, lifting and lowering your knees away from the mat.
🌿Hover - to full plank - try to keep your spine long and lengthened, your back nice and level. Soften your elbows if you begin to lock them out
🌿 challenging! Toe taps, keeping everything as still as you can, pelvis level, core engaged, draw your knees in 1 at a time. 2-4 reps here if you can!
🌿 Plank to Pike! A nice one for a bit of shoulder mobility and stretch. Extend to a plank, shoulders down, hips level, spine long and then push back brining your upper body towards your leg - a nice stretch to the shoulders.
✨ Keep your breath flowing! Inhale to hold.
✨ Take your time to reset between each rep, go for form over lots of reps. Untuck your toes, knees to the mat, shoulders down, neck long
✨ Try to stay lengthened and keep your back nice and level! You can think about a long line running all the way from the back of your head to your toes, keep your pelvis level.
✨ Mix between options to keep your form - progression is best kept nice and slow, do a few reps at a more beginners level, do a few at a harder level ( if you feel comfortable!) and then come back down!
Have a lush weekend 🩷🩷
