This week Solutions attended an unnamed nursery in a village in Lancashire at their request to help them manage two toddlers.

Both having learning disabilities and one also having a physical disability. One with behaviour issues tried to break out of the nursery and regularly bit staff and her Mum and pulled hair. Both also needed to be assisted with moving and handling.

We taught them how to conduct risk assessments and together we established the safe methods of dealing with the issues including how to release from hair grips and bites without resorting to force.

The Mum present and staff all so appreciative of finding satisfactory ways of addressing these issues. For our trainer, one of the most satisfying jobs of the year.

Nice to know that the decades of experience our trainers have are put to such good use.

🚑 Community Ambulance Service are one of the largest UK private ambulance providers.

🦺 Delivering emergency, non-emergency and secure ambulance services as well as site medical cover across the UK.

👊 Shockingly in the NHS ambulance service alone in 2023/4 every hour of every day two ambulance staff were exposed to abuse or assault ( Source Association of Ambulance Chief Executives)

☺️ To ensure their staff are kept safe Community Ambulance Service engaged Solutions to train nine staff to deliver conflict resolution training using our Train the Trainer system. The focus being dynamic risk assessment to read a situation and if needed withdraw, or if deemed safe to solve aiming for a win – win outcome.

❌ As part of the programme staff were also trained how to apply non pain compliant disengagement skills if subjected to grips and grab with an example shown of grabbed by the forearm.

On completion attendees received an award on the regulated qualifications framework.

🧠 Mental Health - The cost for UK employers alone is £56 billion (source Office for national statistics) this is a very worrying the trend is on the increase.

The updated First Aid at work regulations in 2024 now requires employers to consider Mental Health First Aid provision, so it’s now a legal requirement.
Having trained Mental Health First aider(s) / Champions in the workplace we can evidence that staff who are unwell are being spotted, and workers are more willing to approach a colleague rather than a faceless employee assistance programme.

We offer a two-day course that includes your people applying their new skills with a trained actor.

📅 Next course - London - January 2026

This year we have received the largest ever number of orders for our “Unique Ambulance Carry Sheet” to date orders from both NHS and private ambulance companies have exceeded 450 with some 250 going to West Midlands Ambulance Trust for both A&E and PTS vehicles.

Why are they unique? Because they allow people to be carried in a semi recumbent position as well as recumbent plus the foot pocket allows crews carrying a person in a scoop stretcher to adopt better postures as stooping is eliminated when taking down a flight of stairs.

Also great for mass casualty situations as they fold easily for storage.
