As a Primary School Teacher and a Foster Carer I have worked with children for nearly 30 years. Every child I have met has been an individual with their own personality, experiences, gifts and struggles. Throughout my career I have always been aware of the difficulties facing so many children who are expected to fit into our one-size-fits-all society. I have experienced the distress of seeking help for a child, only to be told that there are waiting lists, or that the child does not exhibit the level of difficulties to qualify for the right support. This left me disillusioned with a system that only offered support to those who had reached a crisis point and left a huge number of children and families without the skills or help they needed to deal with their daily lives. I have completed a vast array of training as a teacher and foster carer, including specialist training for “Every Child a Reader”, THRIVE, PACE and Therapeutic Parenting. This training has dealt with everything from Foetal Alcohol Syndrome and Attachment Disorder to Drug Awareness and Life Story work. Although these were helpful in my role of supporting children, they did not engage directly with the child and give the child the skills to help themselves now, and in the future. When I discovered Ali Knowles and Ollie and his Superpowers, I knew it was the very thing that had been missing. The Ollie concept allows children to work through their issues. Ollie Coaches do not ‘fix’ people but teach children how to use a range of techniques so they can help themselves. Children and adults are empowered to help themselves with anything life can throw at them. Ollie Coaching is preventative and will help a child and their family deal with any problems they may have. It teaches the skills to be able to control their emotions, rather than being controlled by them! I work with individual children, and their families, using child-friendly language to explain how our mind works and why we feel what we feel. This allows a child to make changes themselves in a truly empowering way. There are no long waiting lists, and you don’t need to wait for things to reach a crisis before we can help. As an Emotional Wellbeing Coach I work with children, families or adults to help them learn about their emotions and how to manage and control them, building resilience and emotional wellbeing. The sessions are fun, simple and brilliantly effective, providing the education, support and tools needed to overcome problems and challenges. Ollie Coaching for children empowers them to understand, express and manage their emotions and also supports the adults around them with tools to support both their child and themselves.
