A new report reveals that synthetic chemicals used throughout our food system — pesticides, phthalates, bisphenols and PFAS — are driving a massive global health burden. These chemicals have been linked to hormone disruption, fertility issues, cancer and developmental problems.
As a nutritionist, I see every day how reducing toxic load supports better energy, hormone balance and long-term wellbeing. While we need system-wide change, here’s what you can do right now:
Easy ways to lower your toxic exposure:
Choose whole, minimally processed foods more often
Pick organic when you can, and wash conventional produce well
Use glass/steel instead of plastic for food storage
Avoid heating food in plastic
Remove plastic wrappings from fruit and vegetables.
Limit canned and heavily packaged foods
Support the liver (our natural detox organ) naturally with fibre-rich, nutrient-dense meals
Avoid fake fragrance in the home (candles, washing powder, fabric softeners, plug in smells)
Wear natural fibres, cotton, wool!
Small changes really do add up!
