Sophie Holmes Therapy Hypnotherapy For Anxiety & Low Self-Esteem Hi, I’m Sophie and I’m a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist! I was diagnosed with ADHD at the age of 28.

I specialise in helping people with confidence and anxiety issues by using a range of holistic and evidence-based approaches. I have particular experience helping those struggling with ADHD. I spent years thinking I was useless. Why couldn’t I manage my life? Why couldn’t I hold down a job? Was I stupid? I felt like I was constantly falling short. Women with ADHD often get overlooked because we don’t always present with stereotypical symptoms, leading to missed or delayed diagnoses. Through my own journey, I've battled with imposter syndrome, low self-esteem and anxiety. I understand the tremendous toll these issues can take on self-esteem and overall well-being. These personal experiences fuel my dedication to help others overcome similar challenges with confidence, anxiety, and imposter syndrome. I am here to help all those who refuse to settle for a lifetime of feeling like they are not good enough. I love helping people transform their relationship with mind and body, its completely life changing to be able to walk through life with total self-confidence. Remember, YOU ARE ENOUGH.

Recognising that therapy is working can sometimes be subtle and gradual, but there are a number of positive indicators that can signal progress.

💡 You are becoming more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
💡 You have more hope. Even if you are where you want to be right now, you know you’ll get there.
💡 You are kinder to yourself and less critical when things don’t go as planned.
💡 You are using new healthy coping skills in difficult situations.
💡 You think differently, you are able to challenge unhelpful thoughts.
💡 Your symptoms are less intense and less frequent. You feel more able to manage when they do appear.

Success looks different for everything, some people notice changes right away, others it might take some time. You know you best.

Are there any other signs you would add? How do you know when therapy is starting to work?

Ever find yourself wishing you could escape the clutches of anxiety?

Let's talk about managing anxiety from a practical perspective. It's not always about waving goodbye to it forever but learning to navigate life alongside it. Luckily, there are effective methods to minimise anxiety's influence.

One really simple and effective way is through Vagus Nerve Stimulation.

The vagus nerve is a key player in regulating essential bodily functions such as heart rate, breathing, and digestion – all of which tend to go crazy during anxious moments.

Using these vagus nerve techniques can offer significant relief. Whether you're in the midst of a panic episode or simply seeking some peace, these approaches are worth trying.

Curious to try them out? Share your thoughts and experiences!

I’ve been quiet on there… and there’s a reason!

Some big changes have been happening in the Holmes household. In a few days time we will be leaving Wigan and moving to Plymouth! 🏠

A lot is changing and you will have to bear with me for a short time while I figure everything out. I’m taking a short break while the move happens and we settle in but I will be back soon! I will be working online at the start but I will be looking for a therapy room at some point in the future.

I appreciate all my clients patience at the moment and I hope everyone is ready for some renovation content! 😂🔨

We're not all just "a little bit ADHD". Talking like this oversimplifies and misrepresents what living with ADHD really means.

Everyone experiences moments of distraction, forgetfulness, or impulsivity, but ADHD is a neurodevelopment disorder that significantly impacts a person’s ability to regulate attention, emotions, and behaviour in various areas of their life. It's not about having a few scatty moments or not being able to concentrated on a task at work—it involves a persistent pattern of symptoms that disrupt daily functioning in school, work, and relationships.

By saying "we're all a little bit ADHD," people unintentionally downplay the struggles and unique challenges faced by those who are actually ADHD. It can contribute to misunderstandings and stigma, making it harder for people with ADHD to get the support and accommodations they need.

The myth that someone might never "wake up" from hypnosis is rooted in misunderstanding.

🧠 In reality, hypnosis is a natural state of focused relaxation, where you are always in control. Sometimes, people find it so pleasant and calming that they may need a bit of prompting to return to full alertness. However, you can never get "stuck" in hypnosis.

😴 If left undisturbed, you would either naturally open your eyes and return to your surroundings on your own or you could drift off to sleep. Your body knows how to bring itself back to normal consciousness, and you’re always able to open your eyes or stop the session if you wanted or needed to.

👩‍🏫 New term nerves are totally normal, but you're a month in and you're still feeling it? Recognising that the stress isn't easing up is the first step to doing something about it. Remember, powering through isn't the answer.

📋 I get it, I was a teacher. The to-do list NEVER ends, there is always someone asking you to do something, the planing you didn't get time to do in PPA, the history books that you haven't marked for 3 weeks.. It just goes on and on and on.

But, honestly, pushing yourself to the limit is only going to make it worse. Looking after yourself and your mental health has to take priority, things at school can wait.

You can't pour from an empty cup

Here are some last minute ideas for little ones that might be worried about going back to school 📚

Going back to school after the holidays can be scary, and it's completely normal for kids to feel nervous. However, if that nervousness or anxiety is seriously affecting your child's mental health, some extra support could make a big difference. Hypnotherapy for children is highly effective, it not only helps them to relax and build confidence but also teaches them valuable coping skills that they can take with them as they grow up. If you think your child could benefit from a little extra help, please get in touch — I'm here to support you both 👩👧👨

Sorry for being super quiet! 🤫

I’ve just got home from the most wonderful break in sunny Spain 🇪🇸 🌞

I had planned on continuing to post while I was away to keep my content out there but actually when I got on holiday, honestly, it didn’t even cross my mind and I think I needed a break away from work more than I realised.

There were moments when I felt guilty for not posting but I challenged those unhelpful thoughts and realised that sometimes all you need is rest and a break. Taking the pressure off and enjoying myself was the best thing I could have done for myself ❤️

While I was away, I eat lots of amazing food, drank lots of lovely (cheap) wine, read 2 whole books (this is major for me! Having dyslexia makes reading hard but I did it!), I spent time with my husbands family and laugh loads.

Don’t feel guilty for resting or taking a break, sometimes it’s what we need 💆‍♀️

I’m back in my therapy room this week and I’m really looking forwarding to seeing current and new clients 💛
