Mental Health Week is a reminder that support comes in many different forms — and healing is not one-size-fits-all.

Multi-sensory therapy and Drawing and Talking, can help children and adults express emotions, feel understood, reduce anxiety, and reconnect with themselves in safe and creative ways.

Mental health support should not only be spoken about during Mental Health Week, but every week of the year. Everyone deserves compassion, understanding, and access to support that works for them.

Let’s continue to encourage open conversations, creativity, connection, and wellbeing — today and always

Can your little/big ones help Andys Man Club out ?

❤️ We are looking for some helpers ❤️

Everyone that supports us means the world to us.

We are designing a new range of thank you cards to send out and are looking for some small helpers to design these.

Are you a user of our service or someone whose loved one has benefited from attending?

Do you have or know children that would like hand draw us a picture with a little handwritten note on.

Please see these amazing examples a few children have drawn that we have had printed up ❤️

AMC and Me make my daddy happy.

My uncle plays football with me again, thank you.

If you have some little voices that would like to help, please scan or send a good quality A5 photo of a hand drawn picture and message to designs@andysmanclub.co.uk or pop an email for our postal address.

Do you care for a young person or adult with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), learning disabilities, or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder ADHD, and are you worried that they may go missing?

There are things you can do to prepare for this by completing a Know Me to Help Me form.

Know Me to Help Me is a service where you can submit up-to-date information about those who may be at risk of going missing. This can help our officers save valuable time if this happens, giving us the best chance to find them.

One of the wonderful reported benefits of Drawing and Talking?
Improved social skills 💬💛

When children and young people feel safe enough to explore and process their emotions, they often become more confident in how they connect with others, whether it’s joining in play, expressing their needs, or building friendships.

To find out how Drawing and Talking could help support the children and young people in your setting, please visit our website:

Free PPE Items Available for Voluntary & Community Groups
We’ve got a quantity of free Covid-related PPE items currently available that we’d love to see reused by local voluntary, community, uniformed and creative groups rather than sent to landfill.

These items are past their clinical use date but still perfectly viable for activities such as art, crafts, messy play, food projects, outdoor activities and general protective use.

Available items include:
🦺 Disposable aprons – adult size (can be folded/shortened for children)
🧤 Disposable gloves – boxes of 100 (10 boxes per carton)
• Good supply: Small & Medium
• Limited supply: Large & Extra Large
🛡 Face visors

📍 Items will need to be collected from Ince

If your group could make use of any of these items, please email:
📧 streetsceneplanning@wigan.gov.uk

Once they’re gone, they’re gone – please share with any groups who might benefit

When a child self-harms, it’s not about attention or manipulation — it’s about coping with pain that feels too big to hold alone. What we say in those moments matters. Calm, steady, non-judgemental words help keep the door to connection open, reduce shame, and let a child know they are not alone with their distress.

For deeper guidance on understanding self-harm, supporting regulation, and building safer coping pathways, the Chasing Endorphins Toolkit is available — link in comments below ⬇️ or via Linktree Shop in Bio.

👋Calling all Wigan professionals!

We Are Survivors and The DIAS Domestic Violence Centre Welcome you.

On Wednesday 29th April, We Are Survivors will welcome professionals to a Drop-In at The DIAS Domestic Violence Centre, King Street Wigan, from 10:00am to 1:00pm and you’re invited.

We Are Survivors is in its 17th year of supporting men, non-binary and trans (18+) who have experienced sexual harm, across Greater Manchester and the North West. You may already be familiar with our organisation, or this may be your first introduction to our work.

The purpose of the Professional Drop-In is to meet colleagues across services in Wigan, share information about the support we provide, learn more about your service, and strengthen local connections. This will help ensure that survivors can access timely, appropriate support to aid their recovery across each local authority.

Ensuring No Male Survivor is Left Behind

This event is delivered in collaboration with The DIAS Domestic Violence Centre, where We Are Survivors provides services every Wednesday at their venue as part of our ‘Speaking Out’ project.

If you would like to find out more about our service—or for us to learn more about yours—please register your interest via the Eventbrite link Speaking Out Wigan Tickets.

If you are unable to attend the Drop In, but would like to know more about We Are Survivors, you can drop us an email with your name and organisational information and we will be in contact, community@wearesurvivors.org.uk

We look forward to welcoming you.

Warm regards

We Are Survivors.

Ever noticed how a child can “hold it together” all day… then explode at home? It is also relevant for us as adults.

This is one of my favourite ways to explain why that happens — and it’s simple enough to do with a real Coke bottle.

Sit with your child and pass the bottle back and forth.
As you talk about their day, gently shake it each time a stress or trigger comes up. Share your own triggers also.
Noise. Work pressure. Friendship stuff. Trying to behave. Trying not to cry.

Then pause and ask:
“What do you think will happen if I take the top off now?”

That moment matters.

It helps children see that the explosion isn’t about being naughty or out of control — it’s about pressure building with nowhere to go.

From there, you can explore the real question:
How do we take the lid off without an explosion?

We talk about letting the bottle settle first.
Deep breathing.
Quiet time.
Food.
Movement.
Connection.
Time to decompress.

Regulation isn’t about forcing calm.
It’s about releasing pressure safely — a little at a time.

👉 You can find The Coke Bottle Activity linked in the comments below ⬇️ or via Linktree Shop in Bio.

I’d love to know — what “shakes the bottle” most for your child after school?
