Who else is finally emerging from a Christmas stupor? One of my patients told me last week that I was the first doctor who hadn’t made her feel guilty about continuing to indulge, and that’s because it is a part of life for a lot of us. Eating and drinking lovely things is often part of relaxing and of enjoying time with friends. However, there comes a point after the festive period (for me it is February this year!) where we realise that too much of a good thing can affect our energy and mood levels. It can be a major cause of that falling asleep on the sofa by 8pm, or not having the energy to get up and do the exercise we know will make us feel better…stabilising our blood sugars is key. Try first to reduce sugar intake and add just one more vegetable portion to each meal…you will soon start to emerge from that stupor..!)
