Disclosing solution is a special colouring liquid that helps us see where plaque biofilm is hiding on your teeth. Plaque biofilm is a sticky layer of bacteria that can lead to cavities and gum problems if it’s not cleaned off.

The colour can also tell us how old the plaque is. Newer plaque, just a few hours old usually shows up as a lighter colour like pink or red. Older plaque, over 24 to 48 hours old can show up darker, like purple or blue.

This helps us (and you!) spot the areas that need more attention when brushing and flossing.

• Clean your teeth twice daily with an electric toothbrush for at least 2 minutes
• Clean between your teeth with floss and or interdental brushes nightly prior to toothbrushing
• Don’t rinse after cleaning your teeth just spit out the excess toothpaste
