Happy Mothers’ Day to all of you mums and foster mums.
My own mum, who l lost in 2012, would not approve. She always said “Tim! It’s *Mothering Sunday*, a Christian festival. Mother’s Day is just an Americanism”.
She also dismissed any notion of a Fathers Day as in her view it was non-biblical and just a commercialised opportunity for retailers!
So today I include all of you who have lost your own mothers too. I know how the grief never leaves you when that happens, however long ago it might have been.
I think it was the Queen Mother who once said “Grief is the price we pay for love”, and that is so, so true.
So days like today will be bittersweet for these reasons. They bring appreciation and love for those we have, and longing and sadness, too, for those we have lost.
But foster mums should be treasured as well. You are all quite extraordinary people who devote your personal lives and those of your families to other people’s children.
If that in itself isn’t awe inspiring, l don’t know what is!
So respect, love and continuous admiration from me. You do something l have never done, and I have always felt extremely humbled by that.
Enjoy today if you are able. If it brings back sad or painful memories you are far from alone.
My love and respect to you all,
Tim ### ♥️
