Wimborne Food Festival is just around the corner!

📅 Saturday 20th September
⏰ 11am - 4pm

Back for its second year, the festival promises even more to sink your teeth into.

Head to Willow Walk for free live talks and demonstrations from a fantastic line-up of local speakers, alongside artisan food stalls and family entertainment. You’ll also find more stalls on the Minster Green, plus Dorset Farmers Markets will be in Wimborne Square.

East Street and Church Street will be closed to traffic, creating the perfect space for al fresco dining and live music. On East Street, Keating’s Butchers will fire up a pop-up BBQ while The East Street Deli serves up festival cheese boxes. Church Street will be buzzing too, with live music, tapas from Ten Bottles Wimborne and a pint waiting for you at Dorset’s smallest pub, The Oddfellows Arms.

A warm welcome to a new member of the Clear View team - specialist tutor, Annette Fisher! 🤩

Over to Annette to introduce herself -

Hi, I’m Annette and I’m delighted to be joining Clear View Education as a specialist tutor.
I love teaching and have been lucky enough to be a teacher for over 30 years in both the state and independent sector🤩.

Having started as a primary school teacher, 13 years ago I undertook a post graduate qualification to become an SpLD teacher. I now teach a broad age range of pupils from 5 to 16 years.

I enjoy getting to know each individual pupil and get a real buzz seeing their ‘Eureka’ moment when they ‘get’ something they have previously found challenging! 💡

I will be tutoring at the Wimborne hub one day a week, the rest of the time at my satellite Clear View hub in North Dorset.

•My husband and I run a smallholding, near Shaftesbury, where we care for several animals, ranging from alpacas to pygmy goats to highland cows 🦙🐐🐮.
•I adore travelling, when time allows, and spending time with my family, which is usually centred around tasty food 🍽️.
•I love rollercoasters …and will try any coaster at least once! 🎢
•I’m also lucky enough to celebrate Christmas twice a year because of my German mum! German Christmas Markets are the best – especially the Gluhwein! 🇩🇪🎄🎅

Hello! Welcome to Clear View Education!

As we slip into a new school year, I thought this would be a good time to reintroduce myself! 😍

I’m Anna, owner and director of Clear View.

I have been a teacher for over 30 years in both the state and independent sector. Following a postgraduate qualification in SpLD, I have spent the last 15 years teaching and supporting children who face barriers to their learning, whether that is, for example, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia, ADHD, Autism, PDA, ODD or CDC.

2024 was the year I decided to step away from teaching in school and set up my own SEN consultancy business in Wimborne. The aim of Clear View Education is to offer tailored, highly structured SEN support (whether that is academically, emotionally or socially) for children and their families in the local area.

A really useful infographic from Made By Dyslexia explaining the ‘Spiky Profile’ we can see with Dyslexic learners.

These children are often achieving way above their peers in some areas, yet are underachieving in others.

Unfortunately, Dyslexic learners face their biggest challenges in the areas by which schools measure intelligence - speed of reading, writing and spelling and the ability to learn by rote.

quotes the following statistics:

🎈71% of dyslexics are great at communicating (verbal reasoning) - but 89% are poor spellers (working memory)
🎈8 out of 10 dyslexics are above average at lateral thinking (questioning), but 9 in 10 struggle getting thoughts on paper (organisation).

On Thursday evening, we were delighted to welcome Michelle Cyril Family Sleep Specialist to Allendale House Wimborne as part of the Clear View Talks series.

In a packed 90 minutes, Michelle talked the audience through the physical, emotional and psychological aspects that can affect our children’s sleep patterns and why it can be particularly challenging for a neurodivergent child to settle and stay asleep at night.

It was great to hear about Michelle’s experience with her own children’s difficulties with sleeping (and what inspired her to become The Family Sleep Specialist!), as well as hearing the stories behind the families she has successfully supported.

Whether a parent or educator, Michelle gave the audience lots to think about and certainly reframed many of the long-held ideas around achieving a successful sleep routine.

At Clear View Education, we are supporting Tourettes Awareness Month in support of our amazing pupils who struggle with vocal and physical tics on a daily basis.

We know that tics are just the tip of the iceberg for those children who live with Tourettes. Often the challenges that it brings are invisible and this is why it’s so important to raise a wider awareness, of this condition, particularly how it impacts a child’s education.

In the classroom, a child with Tourettes can struggle not because they can’t learn, but because they’re managing so much in the background. For example:

🎈Suppressing tics
🎈Sensory overload
🎈Executive dysfunction
🎈Anxiety
🎈Concentrate
🎈Managing their time
🎈Stay organised
🎈Fatigue

Supporting this profile does not have to be complicated. Small changes to the classroom environment, understanding, flexibility and empathy means a child with Tourettes can thrive and their strengths can be celebrated.
