On Friday, staff supported a joint cycling session in Eastbourne for The Lustrells. Leon, Larbi and Callum were all excited to take part, choosing bikes suited to their needs with staff encouraging independence. 🚲

Leon and Larbi rode their favourite bikes independently, completing lap after lap with plenty of encouragement. Callum enjoyed riding an adapted bike alongside staff, with smiles all round. 🤗

The atmosphere was positive and energetic, with everyone engaged, safe and having fun. After the session, they enjoyed refreshments together before heading home, having shared both great exercise and great enjoyment. 💪✨

Yesterday, Heather visited Jack in his flat and mentioned she had heard he had recently been to McDonald’s. She told him she had never been before and would love to go with him one day.

A few hours later, Jack came to the communal lounge, popped into the office and asked Heather when she would like to go. When she told him, she also asked what he planned to have, and Jack replied with a smile, “Burgers!” 🍔

While still in the communal lounge, Heather asked Jack if he would like to play a game together. He agreed, and they enjoyed a round of Word Builders, where Jack confidently spelled out the words for each picture and named them aloud.

They're both very excited about their future plans together! ✨

Jamie and staff took a bus trip to Milton Keynes and from the very start, Jamie had the biggest smile on his face! He loved watching the world go by through the window and didn’t stop grinning the whole way there. Once they arrived, they headed to McDonald’s for lunch (Jamie's favourite), where he happily tucked in. After that, they spent some time at the mall - it was raining outside, so they found a cosy spot to sit for a while. Jamie was in great spirits, waving and saying hello to members of the public. It was a lovely, cheerful outing filled with smiles and good vibes all round! 🤗

On Thursday, Kerry, Jamie, Levi, and Jarek attended the Central Beds Summer Fête - this was a community event that they had been invited to. The group arrived at the venue at around 3:00pm and were warmly welcomed on arrival. Early in the visit, they had the opportunity to watch an air ambulance land nearby, which caught everyone’s attention. While at the fête, the group reconnected with some familiar faces from their previous college, as well as others they had known over the years. They spent some time in the sensory room, exploring and interacting with the various sensory items. Later on, the group enjoyed some snacks and drinks together, with Jamie and Jarek having some ice cream, before taking part in a relaxed colouring activity with staff - everyone had a fun time! 🌟 😍

On Saturday, Jarek and staff had an unforgettable day at Ely Cathedral! When they arrived, the field outside was full of stunning vintage cars. Jarek was especially excited, carefully choosing his favourite and posing beside it. After enjoying the car show, they went inside the cathedral and were warmly welcomed by the staff; they explained the tour and provided them with a phone guide. The cathedral was breathtaking, and Jarek and staff enjoyed exploring its history and architecture together. As they waited for the evening service, the choir’s rehearsal filled the space with beautiful harmonies. They had another look around before being ushered in for the service - a peaceful and memorable day!

Whilst offering Jack, a resident at Warwick Manor, a choice of lunch options, a supporting staff member asked if he would like to go out for a meal at McDonald’s —-and Jack happily agreed.
They enjoyed a lovely lunch together, with Jack confidently ordering his own food independently. 🍟😊

It was a bright and cheerful morning as the Lustrells group prepared for their boat trip, loading up the van with jackets, sunscreen, a cooler, and plenty of water bottles. Daniel, Leon and Callum were looking forward to the outing with great excitement. Although rain had been forecast, the skies cleared just in time, setting the perfect scene for an adventure.

Upon arrival at the marina, staff supported the young people to access the facilities and dress appropriately for the weather. Once everyone was ready, the boat’s crew helped fit life jackets and explained the safety procedures for the trip. The vessel - a compact “Wet Wheels” boat designed for smaller groups - had space for just ten passengers, and to their delight, the group had it all to themselves.

Everyone chose a seat, eager to set off. Leon smiled, danced, and waved at passers-by, while Daniel took in the view from a corner seat, clearly enjoying the peaceful surroundings. Callum, securely positioned in his wheelchair space, was equally enthusiastic. The captain even offered to play music of their choice, adding to the festive atmosphere.

As the boat moved out into the water, waves splashed the deck, prompting Leon to cheer, “Faster! Faster! Come on!” The further they went, the bumpier the ride became — but the group embraced the big waves and enjoyed the thrill of the open sea. When the weather began to turn and rain set in, the crew provided coats and adjusted course for safety. Although the group couldn't venture as far as originally planned, the change of direction brought calmer waters and continued enjoyment.

One of the highlights came toward the end of the journey, when each young person had the opportunity to take the wheel. Leon volunteered first, donning the captain’s hat and thoroughly enjoying his turn steering the boat. Daniel followed, beaming throughout, and finally Callum guided them safely back to the harbour.

This was a second boat trip for both Daniel and Callum, and it proved to be a memorable experience for all involved. The group returned home safely, with many smiles and stories to share - and they’re already looking forward to next time's adventure.

When Tom from Vincent Place won't come to the pool table, we bring the pool table to Tom!!
Our resident homebody had a great surprise on Tuesday when staff helped set up the pool table right in his flat! With a bit of teamwork and creativity, they turned his space into a mini games room and Tom absolutely loved it!

Lizzie from Warwick Manor had a lovely day out in town! 🌤️
She made the most of the sunshine and refreshing breeze, taking a stroll through the shops before picking out some fun new stickers to decorate her door. After a well-earned drink and a bit of people-watching, it was time to head home, happy, relaxed, and full of smiles! 🛍️✨

About Us

Glenholme is a specialist care provider providing genuinely personalised support for adults with severe learning disabilities and a variety of mental health conditions. Our focus is on promoting independence through outstanding support. We operate residential homes, supported living schemes and outreach services, which means we have the range of support options to fulfil most needs and to respond to those needs as they change.

Glenholme began as a provider of residential support to adults with mental health conditions. Over time Glenholme’s positive outcomes meant we were asked to expand into providing support for adults with learning disabilities, including those with autism, physical disabilities and those with severe challenging behaviour. Responding to the needs of our clients, we have also extended from residential based services to also provide supported living and outreach services. In this way, we are able to provide support along the complete care pathway.

Today, Glenholme has services across the South East. We still have the same focus on the care we provide as we did when Glenholme was set up 25 years ago. Our team of dedicated and well-trained carers work closely with those they are supporting, their families, friends and advocates to provide excellent support in even the most challenging of situations. We recognise that many diagnoses bridge traditional medical divides and so, in addition to our core team, we have a group of professionals providing a range of other services including psychiatric input, occupational therapies and addiction counselling. We know how important surroundings are to mental health and we pride ourselves on the quality of our homes and our supported living schemes. All our accommodation is modern and well maintained and is situated in attractive neighbourhoods so that those we support can benefit as fully as possible from community life. For those in our outreach services, we are able to provide help with finding accommodation and securing a tenancy.
