Celebrating communities that boost our mental health this

One of my ‘Anna’s life promises’ I made last year was to connect more as I’m a natural hermit.
I have always wanted to be one of the helpers you’d met when visiting a historical house and sharing its stories with visitors.
A love of a TV series brought me to where I fell in love with the reality of this incredible house and its history. When I saw they were looking for volunteers I jumped at the chance and post treatment here I am.
I love that I have fulfilled this dream but more than that how it’s led me to become part of this wonderful community by pursuing an interest.

We are all unique beings and learning to understand ourselves, our individual personality, interests and needs, enables us to nourish and support our whole health and wellbeing. It helps us to offer greater self compassion when in need and acknowledgment to enable us to grow and feel fulfilled.

We are wired to connect with others and the communities we build around us play such an important role in nurturing our self esteem, sense of belonging and enjoyment. Finding our tribe across different interests enables us to recognise we aren’t alone, that we are all unique but share commonality which has this amazing capacity to make our heart, mind and body sing.

Sharing mindfulness in nature with the children at school this week in wellbeing club 🔍🌿🐞🌳🫁
Having qualified as a Mindfulness in Nature practitioner in November with I have had great fun creating resources for the children to enjoy this term and love seeing how the children have engaged with them.
It’s been joyful to see their enthusiasm and creativity being outside and listen to excited discussions and ideas sparked from their experience.
The weather has been a bonus too ☺️☀️

Looking forward to week 2 🌿🌼👑

Walking through the woods after the rain

Damp brown earth and bark darkened.
Fresh frothy young green leaves softening the horizon as if someone has smudged the tree lines with a pastel crayon.
Great tall emerald firs with branches hanging like waves,
Fern fronds unfurling like angels,
Carpets of bluebells and stitchwort.
The wood feels alive with movement and yet silent and still.
Moments to breathe in this space and feel myself soften.
I feel grounded and grateful.

Today is Earth Day 🌎🌿

There are so many scientific studies to show the positive impact of nature on our brain & mental health affecting our ability to feel calm, reduce feelings of stress & anxiety. Humans are intuitively linked to nature and yet our modern life makes us more disconnected than ever.

Across all my times of fear, sadness and grief I have sought out nature to bring back a sense of safety, to soothe and renew.
Nature’s boundless capacity to ignite feelings of awe and wonder sparking hope and resilience within.

We have two homes; our body and our planet. How can we cherish both with the choices and actions we make to nourish our present and protect our future?🌱

🤍Step outside everyday, as often as possible, for as long as we are able - Breathe & Connect using all our senses
🤍 Encourage our children to be outside, exploring, getting dirty, learning about plants, trees & wildlife
🤍If you are lucky enough to have garden or space for a window box get digging and planting. Grow plants & flowers that support our insects🪴🐝🦋 & vegetables for you 🥕🥬🥦
🤍Plant a tree in your garden or connect community projects planting tree in the UK or around the world
🤍Challenge yourself to do a 2-minute Litter Picking Clean in your area🗑

Today why not find a few moments to pause and take a few mindful breaths outside absorbing the wonder of nature and our amazing planet reflected in the sights, sounds, smells around you. Time to breathe, observe & feel grateful for all our planet gives us, this day, everyday & with our care all days to come 🌎

Let’s make everyday Earth Day 🌎 to protect our amazing planet for future generations 🌳

Allowing myself to pause
To notice this next breath as it arises and flows through me.
And then be released and let go.
Softening into this moment just as it is.
Noticing the sounds around me,
What I can see,
What I can feel.
Inviting a sense of openness, connecting with gentle curiosity.
Bringing awareness to this moment.
I am here.
My thoughts and emotion.
I am noticing without getting too caught up in them, just acknowledging their presence.

I can create space within the busyness and come back to me.
My breathing space within.
Moments to connect and resource myself.
To listen and respond with kindness, compassion and trust.
I am here.
What do I need right now?

A short practice inspired by my walk this morning 🌿🌳
April is and so sharing this mindful invitation to use in any moment. Taking inspiration from nature opening and breathing around us to bring it within, helping to calm our nervous system.

I have been mesmerised by the new leaves unfurling all around me and can’t stop taking photos of them ☺️🍃🌿🌳

April is derived from the Latin word aperiere meaning ‘to open’. Nature is alive with movement at the moment which continues to bring me so much joy and support my healing. After missing so much of last year I can feel how much it has affected my relationship with time. Whilst the blue skies have felt like we pressed fast forward to summer observing the growing leaves has helped me press pause to slow down, calming and soothing a racing mind and heart.

🌸🌿 Spring has sprung🌿🌸

What a week of warmth and light.
Nature bursting with life and colour under the bluest skies.
The bare brown tree branches softened with unfurling zinging zesty green leaves.
Catkins dancing in the breeze.
The glamour of the magnificent magnolia blooms.
Billowing pink and white blossom alongside the bright yellow daffodils, dashing blues, violets and purples of muscari, hyacinth and early tulips.
Birds singing and butterflies fluttering.

From the stillness of Winter it is wonderful to witness the movement and vibrancy of Spring as nature renews once again. Moments to mindfully absorb this joyful sensory symphony and be present with nature and feel how it connects with us.

In last night’s meditation we mindfully paused to connect with natures invitation to witness our own movement and aliveness and consider the colours and what makes us feel joyful to help cultivate our own fertile soil and grow.

Hello March ☺️💗🌿

It’s definitely taken me a while to gather myself as I stepped into 2025. A push and pull experience of wanting to leap forward with excitement but also needing rest to support where my body is still at. Remembering that healing takes time and is rarely linear, the importance of patience and self-compassion.
It’s been a busy Jan and Feb with some amazing new opportunities and achievements that have made my heart sing!

My highlight has been to finally finish 18 cycles of targeted therapy and getting to ring that chemo bell 🔔 🎉👏✨ It feels incredibly surreal to know it’s over.
I have been reflecting on the last 15 months and realise that when I looked at my most fragile I was actually at my strongest and how much more fragile I feel now whilst outwardly looking my strongest! Without doubt the emotions around finishing treatment are immense and create a different vulnerability to try and process. I send love to everyone who facing this stage of their cancer journey as you begin to move forward 💗

So here is a celebration of my new beginnings and achievements across Jan and Feb shared with enormous gratitude as a foundation for whatever comes next. Ticking off a couple of ‘Anna’s Life Promises’ already for 2025 👏:-

💗 Working with the wonderful to deliver emotional wellbeing workshops
💗Starting a new mindfulness and wellbeing club at school
💗Ringing that chemo bell!
💗Starting my Thursday meditation sessions with
💗Doing my first Open Day as a volunteer for
💗A special celebration with gorgeous friends

🌱Awakening 🌱

Today is Imbolc a Celtic festival which celebrates the mid point between winter solstice and spring equinox. A transitional time in nature as we begin to see signs of new growth with shoots and buds appearing, the promise of Spring.

Whilst January is full of new beginnings, I find the urgency to move forwards can be overwhelming and feel more aligned with nature’s pace at this time. Slowly still resourcing from within, quietly and at its pace to then create growth that celebrates the journey that has been.
Imbolc invites us to create space to reflect on what has been, let go of what no longer serves us in the present and consider how we want to grow. Connecting and celebrating who we already are and taking our wisdom and strength forwards.

This is my transition time which is harder than I imagined. I am recognising the importance of listening to my body that has carried me through the hardest of challenges to fully be able to nurture future possibilities. Bouncing back takes time and effort like the new shoots breaking through the winter soil.
Reminders to go gently with compassion, patience and respect, celebrating the gift that each step brings.

I am so excited that after needing to put my learning on pause I have now completed my Mindfulness in Nature practitioner training with 🌱🌳🧡

Combining my two passions: ‘mindfulness and nature’ I can’t wait to create new workshops in 2025 for all ages. Thank you Ciaran for all your wisdom and inspiration.

Kindness to our world 🌍

We may never know the impact our words or actions have on someone, especially someone who needed it in that moment for which they will always be grateful.

Let’s keep spreading kindness and compassion around us.

Each drop creates a ripple which can become a wave 💧💦🌊
