Imbolc - The light is returning
Today we welcome Imbolc, a quiet but powerful turning point on the Wheel of the Year.
This sacred calendar honours the ever-turning seasons through eight festivals, each marking a significant moment in nature’s rhythm. Each is connected with a particular energy or deity that guides and reflects the spirit of that time.
Imbolc, celebrated from 1st to 2nd February, falls halfway between the Winter Solstice (Yule) and the Spring Equinox (Ostara). It is a celebration of Brigid, the Celtic goddess of healing, fertility, poetry, and fire. She carries the flame of inspiration, the soft return to light, and the quiet power of new life forming.
This is not the bright light of springtime, but a soft and gentle stirring.
We, too, may begin to notice subtle changes. Ideas forming. Desires resurfacing. A gentle pull toward something new, something not yet fully formed but stirring all the same.
This year, Imbolc coincides with a Leo Full Moon, bringing with it themes of self-expression, heart energy, courage and creativity. This moon encourages us to release old egoic patterns and attachments and to reconnect with a more realistic, grounded vision of ourselves, our lives, and the world we need to shape.
The world feels heavy right now. So much injustice, so much grief.
But we each have a part to play in creating a better world, not just for ourselves, but for those who will come after us.
The light is returning, and so are you.
