Normalising sh*tty days in PJ’s
Recovery is a gradual process, and if you know me, you’ll understand that being inactive isn’t exactly my forte. I’m currently unable to lift, bend, or stand for long periods, which leaves me with little choice but to lie down and focus on my studies.
The initial recovery time for the body to progress through the four stages of healing typically lasts between four to six weeks, with full recovery being 6-12months depending on the op and scar tissue extracted. Any interference with these stages, particularly the internal ones, can lead to complications that may arise during the healing process or even months or years down the line.
My surgery required a steady hand and precision in the removal of a large cyst (at high risk of being cancerous) that was not only growing on my ovaries but also pressing against my bladder and bowels, causing considerable discomfort.
So, while I am eager to return to my usual routine, I recognise the importance of giving my body the time it needs to heal and allowing the inflammation in my bladder and bowels to subside. I suppose I must also embrace this study time.
The journey through peri-menopause and menopause began for me and my nurse prescriber, Wendy, back in 2021. We attended a conference in London, surrounded by professors, consultants, gynaecologists, doctors, and nurses. Our objective was to bring awareness and understanding to clients/patients and help navigate them through the hormonal charges in life.
Little did I realise at the time that my own symptoms would impede my career, undermine my confidence, and dictate a version of myself I didn’t recognise.
Fast forward to today: with my two ovaries, fallopian tubes removed and a controlled diet, and HRT, I finally feel ready to turn the page and embark on a new chapter. I have plenty of time while recovering to reflect and channel my energy to where it’s needed most. My plan is to empower and educate women navigating peri-menopause and menopause, helping them take charge of their symptoms through a six-week programme focused on nutrition and movement tailored for this transition.
